I’m not a fan of flats. I much prefer heels to those flat shoes that give no shape to the leg and help with a graceful walk. However, I realize that flats are a necessary evil. To that end, Nordstrom has some pretty new cute flats on it’s site. Since I work on my feet on occasion, a stylish pair of flats with good cushioning and support are of utmost necessity. I found a couple pair that I could live with.
This Via Spiga black patent slingback flat with a bow across the toe would look chic with either pants or skirt. A nice office shoe, or a good shoe for someone who has to stand for long periods. I love this brand, their shoes wear well and last for years if properly cared for.

I love Stuart Weitzman shoes. His shoes are usually sexy and glamorous. These patent flats, also with a bow come in brown or black.

One last pair that I am definitely going to purchase are by Cole Haan with the Air technology from Nike. Black patent, with a twist on the Mary Jane and extremely cute. Nordstrom’s descriptions:

Intermix has just that, a mix of clothe and accessories that any fashion minded girl would love. I just so happened to open a sale email today, and two pair of shoes and boots that I picked out at the beginning of the season are on sale. I didn’t say affordable, I said on sale.

First, from Valentino, Leopard Haircalf Pumps

These are the kind of beautifully shoes made that you will wear forever. In leopard print haircalf, they are always fashionable. We love the pointy toes! 3″ brown leather-covered heels. Leather soles. The shoes run 1/2 size small so if you are in between sizes, order at least 1/2 size larger than normal. In brown. Reduced from $590 to $399.

Next these to die for chain embellished, platform black leather boots from Sergio Rossi.

These boots were on the top of every fashion editor’s must-have list for fall… and we can confirm that they are indeed gorgeous. They have a buttery soft, 16″ tall black leather shaft with stitching detail. The boots are finished with 2″-wide cuffs in brown leather, which are edged with those killer, instantly identifiable heavy gold chain links. Admittedly I have a major problem with shoes. I probably need a 12 step prgram to cure my addiction. If I could be Imelda Marcos, believe me I would. Every week I see several pair that I would just LOVE. But these I spotted online at Nordstrom today, are more than a gotta have it pair. I feel the plastic firing up on this pair. Absolutely beautiful and intricately handmade Isabella Fiore platform sandal.

And this is the perfect platform. Not a skyscraper, but enough to cushion the foot and balance the heel.

Beyonce’ has been pretty much flawless at each Dreamgirls premiere. She definitely shines at the Paris premiere in a cocktail length dress that accentuates her ample curves. I however am a shoe woman, so I was quite impressed with the darling sandles that she wore. They seem to be made specifically for her dress! The black and jewel encrusted shoes complemented her black dress with the dazzling bodice. My only complaint — a little color on her toe nails would have topped of her look. Beyonce’ has certainly grown up with her fashion tastes. She looks beautiful, elegant and sophisticated at 25.

On my way to work each morning, I listen to a KBLX, a San Francisco Bay Area Radio Station. One feature that I find amusing is the battle of the sexes.The on air personality, Kevin Brown asks gender biased questions to each sex. He assumes that women don’t have a clue about the NFL or Baseball and that men don’t know about items particular to women — makeup,undies,shoes.

This morning Kevin asked the male contestant what was a slingback. Since I commute, I have other riders in my car. This morning they happened to be male. They started throwing their 2 cents in about what a slingback was. One actually came close. However the contestant on the air said that it was a shoe with a strap around the ankle. WRONG! A slingback is not a shoe with a strap around the ankle.

A Slingback is a women’s shoe with a strap going around the heel. They can be open or closed toe. But the heel is always exposed with the strap going around the back of the heel. Sort of like a sling around the heel. Hence, slingback.

This whole radio interaction about slingbacks sparked serious debate in my car. Being the shoe freak that I am, I was quite specific about what a slingback is, and that didn’t seem to bode too well with one of my riders. So I off handedly asked him, what size are your slingbacks, 14? Needless to say that didn’t go over too well either. I’m thinking, hey, this is San Francisco, he may have a better collection of slingbacks that I do.

With that said, I had to go online and look at some special spring slingbacks. Jimmy Choo does amazing slingbacks. Here’s a couple pair that I would LOVE!

Puma designs some very hip shoes that do double duty for everyday wear. They are my go-to shoe for running around because of their vibrant colors and style. Now, my daughter has informed me that I can design my very own pair of Pumas.

Very Cool!

Called Mongolian Shoe BBQ, Puma is taking their inspiration from the preparation of Mongolian Cuisine. Once on the site, the setting is Mongolian BBQ restaurant. You are presented a menu in which you check your selections. (shoes)

You then go to the buffet to pick your meats, vegetables and spices as you would for a Mongolian BBQ. (I’m loving this, but getting hungry) The buffet items correspond to materials and colors for your custom made sneaker. It does take patience and skill to use the tongs to choose Lemonade Leather over Ice Flow Leather and to place them on the part of the sneaker that you want that color. It made me a little seasick to see the screen floating. There are 20 componets and that’s just too much for me. So I didn’t finish my shoes.

Once you do finish however, you can view them or put them in a doggie bag for later.

This build your own shoe is a little too intensive for me. Maybe I need to be of the gaming generation with better hand eye coordination. I think I’ll have my 15 year old daughter finish the shoes for me.

I’m big on celebrity shoe sightings. So I noticed that for People’s Choice Awards, Halle Berry was wearing shoes from a prior event. Is that such a bad thing? Should celebs recycle their shoes?

I was having a very hard time thinking of something new and original to write today, and then i saw this picture from the “Pursuit of Happyness” - London Premiere - Red Carpet Arrivals. Suddenly I realized I could add to my pet peeves category of rants. Now, when I look at this photo, there are a plethora of pet peeves that I instantly see. I keep asking myself, “How much attention does one person need?” Clearly she’s not wearing any underwear and what looks like two table cloths held together with some ribbon.

But this blog isn’t about tacky dressing. It’s about shoes. So take a gander at Sophia Hyatt’s feet. PET PEEVE: Toes hanging off the edge of sandals. I cringe when summer comes around for this very reason. Then she steps all over a second pet peeve. If you wear sandals, polish your toe nails.

This woman has to be the epitome of trashy. I googled her name, and it seems that she loves the trashy dressing crown. Thank goodness I couldn’t find anymore pictures of her feet.

If you have checked out this blog before, you probably know that I have a penchant not only for beautiful shoes, but preferably beautiful Italian shoes. I have drooled over my own Ferragamos, even admired them while wearing them. Well, Ferragamo has done it again. This spring offering from the Salvatore Ferragamo Boutique has made it to my Lust List. I’m really over all the Lindsay Lohan frenzy. But I have to give the girl credit. She has great taste. She always looks fabulous when arriving at events. I don’t know about leaving events, but her poses for the paparazzi are spectacular. Well, I’m probably just gushing because she has such an awesome shoe wardrobe. As a girl who LOVES Christian Louboutin shoes, and has to pinch pennies for a SINGLE pair, I’m in awe at her Louboutin collection. At least what we see on the red carpet. How does that exquisite red leather sole manage to creep into pictures? Do the stars learn how to pose so as to show off the new Louboutins?

On a serious note, how did our society evolve to one where teenage girls wear shoes that cost hundreds of dollars? What does this tell my daughters about the value of material things? Does it really matter that they make millions and can afford a lavish lifestyle? When I think of how I save my pennies to purchase a pair of pricy shoes that I just love, I cringe at the thought of a teen buying the same item with abandon.

For me as a parent, it’s imperative to instill not only values regarding morals, civic duty and charity with my daughters. But values regarding a cold hard cash are equally important. While it’s a pleasure to have beautiful expensive things (shoes in particular), true happiness in life comes from fulfilling oneself mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

And a new pair of shoes once in a while doesn’t hurt either.
