Flips Have Taken Over My Life

Friday, May 11th, 2007

redflipflops.jpg

If you have read this blog at least once, you know that I am a stilletto loving woman. I really find no use for flip flops. Until now that it is. I’m on vacation in Hawaii (which is why my postings have been close to nil this week), and my shoe of choice has been non other than the flip flop. When I was a kid, these things were called thongs. But alas, the word thong has taken on a whole new connotation which we will not discuss at this moment in time. I can however say that in casual Hawaii, the flip flop is the ideal shoe.

I happen to be watching my Golden State Warriors in the NBA Semi-finals at the moment, and just so happened to stumble on these NBA flip flops. I thought those guys wore sneakers!

And if you want somer really hot flip flops, you have got to check out Nine West.

Yves Saint Laurent Introduces the Hottest Heels for Spring

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

So you thought you were really working it in those 4 inch stilettos? Forget it sister. Yves Saint Laurent has introduced a towering 5 1/2 inch stiletto platform that has all the A list Hollywood divas lining up.
Reports RAAKHEE MIRCHANDANI of Page Six:

pulse073a.jpg

The must-have shoe for spring is the “Tribute” from Yves Saint Laurent, adorned with a towering 5 1/2-inch heel. Sold out in most New York retailers, it’s one of the tallest high-fashion shoes ever produced - yet celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani can’t wait to walk at elevations usually reserved for Las Vegas dancers and Vivid Video actresses.

The $640-$660 Mary Jane style comes in four colors: violet, red, black suede and black leather. The slingback version comes in violet, black leather and green suede. Adding to the walking challenge - and the reason the heel can go so high - is the 11/2-inch platform on the front of the shoe.

BuLuckily, the “Tribute” also comes in a more manageable 3 1/2 -inch version. If you’re a wimp.

Check out Christina Aguilera working the super sexy, super high heel YSL Mary Jane.

Shoe collectors and shoe fetishes alike will be clamoring for this hot shoe. It’s sure to be a classic.

Flowers on Your Shoes?

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

I finally figured out that I’m pretty basic when it comes to fashion. I love fine details, good quality, impressive fabrics and leathers. But what I don’t like is a bunch of frou frou. You know, bows, frills, excess. To that end, the bulk of my wardrobe is black and white, with a spot of color here and there. So therefore most of my shoes are non other that your basic black. Well, I’ll regress a moment. I do have a few pair of animal print, red patent, pink lacy stiletos, metallic sandals, snakeskin wedges in an odd color. But alas, I’m your basic black girl.

So when I saw InStyle’s feature on Floral footwear, I was prepared to be disgusted. But, I’m pleasantly surprised. I actually think I could stomach a pair of these shoes with a cute little summer frock. Or paired with capris while I’m cruising Santorini. Ok, wake up Tracey.

Shoes Send a Child To School

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Yesterday I couldn’t think of a thing to write on my blog. I had total writer’s block. And I suppose that was for a reason, because I got the most remarkable comment left on that post. It wasn’t about designer shoes, or what the new trend was. Rather it addressed the needs of children in Africa for shoes. Please read on.

Katelyn Clapham has started a wonderful fund raising drive:

Problem
In rural areas of Africa, schools are widely dispersed and public transportation is scarce, forcing girls to travel long distances to and from school daily. The scorching roads and risk of diseases, like hookworm, make shoes a necessity. Going to school barefoot can also be a source of embarrassment, keeping girls from speaking up in class and getting the most from their education. Unfortunately, the cost of shoes is more than many families can afford.
gift_image_02369_00692_thumbnail.jpg

The Gift
Your donation of $14 will set a girl in Africa on the path to success by providing a pair of sturdy shoes to ease her long journey to school. Her new shoes will also boost her confidence to participate fully in her education. In the words of one student in Ghana who received a pair of shoes from CAMFED: “I now look as neat and proud as any other school-girl.”
Educating girls is the quickest route to alleviating poverty in Africa, but the direct costs of education, including shoes, keep millions of girls out of school each year. Give your loved one a gift that will ensure that one more girl receives the education she needs to lift herself and her family out of poverty. Your donation will also help strengthen the economy in these rural areas of Africa as CAMFED buys items locally whenever possible.

Cute Shoes for Cute Kids

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

I usually write about women’s shoes, but I can’t help but remember when I used to buy little girls shoes. They are so darn cute. And this time of the year, all the patent leather styles are available for Easter. So now is the time to stock up on your children’s dress shoes. I never had to buy shoes for little boys, but they have some great styles too. Here are a few that I found that are just darling. I’m a complete fool for Italian shoes, and I bought the same for my daughters.

Check out Primigi ‘Andes’ Mary Jane. Not exactly a budget price point at $54.95, but they are probably so soft for your toddlers feet.

_5367777.jpg _5367483.jpg

And how about this Umi ‘Posey’ T-Strap white with a pink sole. I wish they had that in my size!

And of course, there is good old Stride Rite, they have been doing children’s shoes for years. They always have dependable style for children. Can’t go wrong with your basic black or white patent Mary Jane.
_5223621.jpg _5192998.jpg

For the young man in your life. the dress shoes mimic the most stylish men’s shoes. Kenneth Cole Reaction, priced from $44.95 to $49.95. Available at Nordstrom.

_5252830.jpg _5252824.jpg

Now, just dragging your kids out to get new shoes may be another matter altogether. But if you have the makings of a true shoe diva, it shouldn’t be a problem at all, and I recommend the red patent mayr jane.

Christian Louboutin, Style Innovator

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Any woman who is a true devotee of beautiful shoes, must give all due homage to Christian Louboutin. The current issue of Allure features Chrisitan Louboutin as an modern day influencer in fashion. I’m not one to argue. He makes the most beautiful shoes. He clearly understands what makes a woman drool over leather and straps. The coveted red sole makes more red carpet appearances than any other shoe. If I could afford a wardrobe of Christian Louboutin shoes, I’d probably be afraid to wear them. I wouldn’t want to scuff that gorgeous sole. In the meantime, I’m satisfied to add yet one more pair to my lust list.

cl.jpg

• Metallic pewter leather.
• Peep toe.
• Covered platform sole and heel.
• Signature red sole.
• Made in Italy.
Abailable at Bergdorf Goodman for $785

In case anyone forgot, I’m a size 11M.

Lust list updated.

Step up Your Game with Some Color

Friday, March 16th, 2007

Are your sneakers basic white, or black or brown? Mix it up. Add some spice to your footwear. Try a little color with your sneaks. Every major athletic shoe company has some jazzy sneakers. reebok-sj-retro-aztec-sneakers.jpg

Check out this Reebok SJ Retro Aztec sneakers in blue/citron/red/navy. $80 at Nordstrom.

I love Puma’s sneakers. They are actually my sneaker of choice. I used to be an avowed Adidas fan. Especially when I played tennis everyday, but the style of Puma is right up my alley. I in particular love the laceless styles that they make. I travel quite a bit for work, so being able to pull those suckers off and throw them right back on without lacing is ideal for airport security lines. Check out colorful sneak: LAB II WOMENS
Color: Violet Quartz/Orchid Purple/White
Price: $70.00

puma.jpg
Originally released in 1981, the LAB II is a lightweight trainer with an unique midsole presentation. The LAB II is made of mesh.

padidas1-3234072_pattern_w345a.jpg
Now, Adidas still is on track with great shoes, and colorful ones at that. I love this red sneak. The Spider is $90 and is pictured in Victory Red/Amber. Hot shoes.

Who doesn’t love old school Chuck Taylors? My colleague at Shopping Tips Online paid homage to Chuck Taylor’s recently. Well, old school school meets hip hop bling with this metallic high top Chuck. Right on time for the spring metallic shoe trend as well.

metallic-chucks.jpg

prodigy_nyc1.jpgSo if you aren’t an oline shopper, check out shoe store in your area that specialize in cool sneakers. On the East Coast, check out Prodigy. Prodigy is a new sneaker store in the East Village, on Avenue B (Corner of 2nd Street), NYC. They sell a wide range of Nike products, including Jordans, Nike Skateboarding and Nike Quickstrike. Here is their address!

January is for Shoe Sales

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

The Christmas frenzy is over and it’s time to rack up shoes. January is the month for bargain shoe shopping.

Check out Nordstrom for major cuts on women’s, men’s and kids shoes.

Piperlime has up to 50% off loads of shoes and boots. Just in time for winter chill.

Zappos has hundreds of shoes for everyone in the family on sale. Dress, to sport to casual.

Online Shoes has up to 65% off on their shoes too.

For designer shoes, check out Eluxury. They boast an exclusive collection of Tod’s, Dior, Roberto Cavelli, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Pucci, Juicy Couture and more.

And don’t to forget your local boutiques. City Search and guides like Daily Candy and Julie B are excellent choices for finding shoe boutiques in your locale. This is a good time to score high end fashion in privately owned stores. It’s time to move that old inventory to make way for new spring selections. You would be surprised how you can even do a little negotiating when buying more than one pair. Try it!

Shoe Shopping for Worthwhile Cause

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

I’m all about shoe shopping. And shoe shopping for a worthy cause makes it all the more satifsying. This is the third instance I have come across recently of shoes for causes. QVC has their annual shoe sale blitz for Breast Cancer and recently Heather Mills had celebrities like Pam Anderson donate shoes for auction to MAG (Mines Advisory Group).
Check out 2 noteworthy causes:

1. TOMS Benefiting South American Children. Buy a pair of their shoes, they get one too!

According to Elle:
A case of burnout blossomed into a full-blown epiphany when entrepreneur/Amazing Race 2 cast member Blake Mycoskie’s extended South American sabbatical led to true love…and heartbreak. The love was for the people and the culture (particularly the Argentinean pastimes of tango, sailing, and polo), while the heartbreak was caused by the extreme poverty he saw in villages and cities throughout his journey. Enter TOMS (short for “tomorrow”), a colorful, unisex take on the ubiquitous slip-on Argentine utility shoe (think Vans, but lighter). The company’s motto, “To make life more comfortable,” extends beyond the wearer to envelop an overarching corporate mission: For each pair of TOMS sold, a South American child in need gets a pair as well.
Plus the shoes look comfy and a practical choice for spring summer casual wear.
toms-3.jpg toms-2.jpg toms.jpg

2. AEROSOLES
A portion of the proceeds from their Yanky Andy and Fine N Andy shoes will be donated to the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance, a protram of the Entertainment Industry Foundation. areosole.jpg
Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cancer killer, but with proper screening, it’s largely preventable. Screening can also find the disease an an early state, when it is curable 90% of the time. While men and women are diagnosed with colon cancer in virtually equal numbers, women often underestimate their risk. Learn more about colorectal cancer and how you can contribute to research and awareness programs at NCCRA.org.

Pam Anderson Donates Shoes for Worthy Cause

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Pam Anderson, not necessarily known for her shoes, donated a pair of hers to Heather Mills (wife of Sir Paul McCartney of Beatles fame) celebrity shoe auction to benefit MAG.pam-anderson-2.jpg

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is one of the world’s leading humanitarian organisations providing conflict-affected countries with a real chance for a better future.

Says MAG, “We clear the remnants of conflict from some of the world’s poorest nations, we educate and employ local people and help provide solutions for those trapped by poverty and economic devastation through no fault of their own.”

The auction is being hosted by Ebay where you too can bid on a pair of Pam Anderson’s signed Stella McCartney Stilettos.

About Shoe Boxers

Would you rather spend your last dollar on a killer pair of Jimmy Choo stilettos or save your cash and traipse around town in a pair of last years flip flops? If you chose the latter, this site is not for you. Shoeboxers is for the Shoe Diva. For the girl who stands out in a crowd – likely because her 4 inch heels have her towering over everyone else.
