Friday, February 27th, 2009

Spring is coming and now is the time to pull out those fashionable boots and put away the boots for warmth. These boots are all very fashionable yet practical when needed. They can be paired with jeans, short pants or even a long skirt or pant suit as well. See if any of these boots will fit your spring time fashion fancy.

boot1

• Calvin Klein Hannah Boot: ($130): This is a half boot with a nice shaped heel. They offer the style of a half boot with a twist of tassel and elastic around the ankle of the boot. The heel is about 3.5-inches high.

boot2

• Corso Como Rachael Boot: These boots are the same style of the riding boot, but with a practical twist to where they are stylish enough to be worn with every day outfits. They come in the colors of brown and black and can be worn with a spring dress or even a pair of light weight pants. Runs about $230.

boot3

• Steve Madden Tribe Boot: These boots are amazing, they are a boot but take on the look of a moccasin. They have suede throughout the length of the boot and tassels that hang down as if to look more tribal in the boot fashion. They would go great with a pair of short pants or even in the summer with a pair of shorts as well. They offer the comfort of the boot but with the flair of sophistication and style.

All of these boots shown here can be purchased at a retailer that carries the line or off the website featured next to the boot. Grab up your pair of spring boots and kick off the season in style.

Here are 10 Tips for staying safe in the back countries during winter months:

1. Call your local Avalanche Forecast hotline to get the latest information on the snow and avalanche conditions in the area where you are going hiking.

2. Plan your route and prepare and pack your gear the night before.

3. Pack rescue gear. Remember: In an emergency, the locator leads to the probe the probe leads to the shovel; the shovel leads to your partner. You needs all three for a speedy recovery of anyone in your hiking party.

4. Head out early. The weather changes throughout the day, plus days are shorter in the winter months, ski tours take time, and an early start means getting back before it gets dark.

5. Test your transceiver. Do a distance check at the trailhead with partner to make sure your locator and other equipment is in good working order and is working properly.

6. Use good procedures on the mountain. Travel from island of safety to island of safety and keep your eye on your teammates at all times.

7. Use your powers of observation. Changing conditions may mean changing your plans. Watch for recent avalanche activity, increased precipitation, shooting cracks, settlements, rapid warming,. and windblown snow. Do not hesitate to turn back if conditions do not fit yr plan.

8. Find out what’s going on under the snow by digging a pit. Is there any signs of cracks or weak layers in the snow pack.

9. Start out on lower angle slopes and work your way up into the steeper terrain.

10. Check in and check out. Let someone know your plans and when you will return.

Avril Levigne has Ugly Shoes

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

I love checking out the red carpet arrivals. In particular the shoes on the soles of the divas at those red carpet arrivals. Most recently I had the opportunity to check out Avril Levigne at her recent CD release party. Now, she was made up to the nines. But those Doc Martins do not go with that tuille skirt that she is sporting. I love Doc Martins. I dressed my daughters in them for years. But come on Avril, grow up.

Naomi Campbell Spikes Sales of Christian Louboutin Boots

Monday, April 9th, 2007

I would love to wear $1,500 Christian Louboutin boots to work to mop and wash windows. That’s exactly what Naomi Campbell strutted on her way to report for her cleaning duty — punishment for throwing a crytsal studded Blackberry at her assistant.

As reported by the New York Post:

Reformed supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL’s community service wardrobe has lead to a huge demand for Christian Louboutin boots.

news003b.jpg

The English beauty, 36, wore a string of expensive, designer labels as she arrived every day for her week-long stint at New York City’s Sanitation Department last month (MAR07). Once inside, she changed into department regulation workwear.
Campbell was ordered to clean the department as punishment for attacking her maid ANA SCOLAVINO in March 2006.
One of the mornings she arrived for work, Campbell wowed the paparazzi in a pair of spike-heeled Louboutin boots, of which only a few existed.
Campbell explains, “One my first day I wore a Ralph Lauren coat, a cashmere shawl and Christina Louboutin boots. Christian got 12 hundred orders from that day.
“He wasn’t going to make those boots - now he is.”

Sexy Halle Rocks the Boots

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Halle Berry is just too hot for herself. She’s not getting older, she’s getting better. At 40. she has defined her style sense and always comes out looking a winner. I posted awhile back that she recycles her shoes. Meaning that she wears her slamming shoes to more than one red carpet event. Shows signs of a reasonable woman to me. Good fashion sense!

Last week Halle co-hosted Host Much On Demand in Toronto, and showed just how to wear jeans tucked into boots. I see this done so badly most of the time, that it was way cool to see the look rocked correctly, the way Halle did.

halle-boots.jpg

Notice the fashionable pointed to boot. Notice that the jeans were neatly tucked in, not bulging out. Notice that her jeans FIT! This is how to wear jeans in boots.

halles-boots.jpg

And looking at the soles of her boots, I think she recycles these too. Pretty worn…Nice to see that a celebrity gets miles out of her shoes.

Booties are Just Plain Hard to Wear

Monday, March 5th, 2007

I love shoes. I love boots. But this invention of the bootie — a boot that comes just above the ankle — is starting to get on my nerves. bootie.jpg Now, they were at first worn under pants, because who the heck can tell you have on a half-boot under a pair of pants. They give the impression of wearing a boot without the effort. But all of the sudden someone said it was the “in” thing to wear booties with everything. Dresses for goodness sakes. It take a real fashionista to pull that one off. Paris Hilton just doesn’t get the look. paris-booties.jpg

Here she is in a flowing evening dress, with a horrible black bootie on a backdrop of pasty white legs. That’s got to be Glamour Don’t.

And then there are singers (or at least some who claim to be singers) who try to sport the look and just don’t make the grade. Check out Fergie. I don’t get the point of a black bootie cutting off your legs at the ankle. This is just not an attractive fashion statement. On the other hand, Christina Aguilera does manage to capture the essence of how the bootie was meant to be worn, even though it is with a skirt. The dark stocking make all the difference.

bootires-fergie.jpg christina-booties.jpg

I would think that a super model would be able to pull off this look with the right style. But super model status does not insure fashion sense. Karolina Kurkova not only has a weird pose, but those booties look hideous. I do have to give do no wrong, on the fashion scene at least, Kate Moss does the bootie good. She even makes leggings look good.

booties-karolina-kurkova.jpg kate-moss-booties.jpg

Ashanti does a decent job with booties, tucking her skinny leg jeans into the top of hers. But Pam Anderson doesn’t get it. But who is looking at Pam Anderson’s shoes anyway except a woman like me who has nothing better to do than write about shoes…

booties-ashanti.jpg pam-anderson-booties.jpg

For all my love of shoes and boots, booties are one trend that’ i’m going to leave alone.

Uggs are so Over Paris - Uggly

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

What is Paris Hilton thinking about? Ok, Paris and Nicole did make the Ugg boot a household name, but they were ugly then and ugly now. Or should I say Uggly. It’s time to give them up. Check her out:
paris_hilton_300x400.jpg

The only cute Uggs I have seen were the teeny tiny ones my girlfriend bought for her baby. Now those were adorable.

I think Paris did a much better job of picking shoes at the party her parents threw her for the launch of her new fragrance. Don’t know the designer, but they reek expense and design. Good job Paris.

These Boots are Made for Wearing

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

There’s a little chill in the air. Fall is definitely here. It’s just about the time to cover up the gams with some serious leather. I’m talking boots. And oh boy. I have seen some beautiful boots. I’m talking DIVA boots. Let’s start with my dream boots. Black Suede Gucci. Gucci = Gorgeous. gucci-boot.jpg While these are totally impractical for the weather, they do indeed make an impressive entrance. Or exit for that matter. At $995 they should.

Moving on with my hit list. I rather like this wedge heel boot by Luichiny Hill. Its sleek, nice styling, the wedge probably makes walking easier. This just may be my new work boot.wedge-boot.jpg And the big plus is that its only $142.95 at Zappos.com. I love this site because of the free shipping, a great plus.

Nordstrom had a few boots that I can definitely consider firing up the plastic for. First is a smart Via Spiga motorcycle inspired boot. Study heel, strappy adornment and made in Italy. It’s gotta be good. It has a narrow calf, so it’s not for me. (I have big feet which happened to be accompanied by rather voluptuous legs.) If I could fit it, I’m sure it would be a buy at $339. I can see it with street shorts, gauchos, whatever they are called. Maybe I should consult Laura over at Style Fix to see what exactly we are calling these things now.

Two pair that I can definitly fit my healthy legs into are also from Nordstrom. The Diva, Nordstrom’s own brand. It’s that lovely man made pleather, so great for rainy days. Also stretchy, so forgiving for those of us who have a generous gams.stretchy-boot.jpg Plus, the price is right at $69.95 One more Nordstrom offering, a short boots, great for longer skirts and pants, is on my gotta have it list. By Facconable, its French; it’s chic. facconable-boot.jpg

Last, but certainly not least, at Piperlime, my new favoite online shoe store, I love the Charles David “Butane”. I say it’s high octane. $445 and they have my name on them. They have awesome views of the shoes on this site. 7 additional views. I also picked out this hip mid shaft bdbg.jpgBCBG suede number. Only $129. Definitely doable.

Last but not least, a boot for all seasons. rainboot.jpg
