I really, really, really hate the look of plain ole toe nails peeking from an open toe shoe or sandal. It just think it’s plain ugly. I see this everyday on the street. And I suppose that’s ok. But when I see celebrities who are making goo gobs of money with naked toe nails, it really irks me. I mean, they spend hundreds of dollars on the shoes for the red carpet occasion. Designers like Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, Stuart Weitzman, Brian Atwood, Manolo Blahnik among others grace their pampered feet. I’m sure they have pedicures before the occasion as well. At least I hope so. (If not, I can hook them up for $15) So why not just put a little paint on those tootsies??? It greatly improves the presentation.

I love shoes. I love boots. But this invention of the bootie — a boot that comes just above the ankle — is starting to get on my nerves. Now, they were at first worn under pants, because who the heck can tell you have on a half-boot under a pair of pants. They give the impression of wearing a boot without the effort. But all of the sudden someone said it was the “in” thing to wear booties with everything. Dresses for goodness sakes. It take a real fashionista to pull that one off. Paris Hilton just doesn’t get the look.

Here she is in a flowing evening dress, with a horrible black bootie on a backdrop of pasty white legs. That’s got to be Glamour Don’t.

And then there are singers (or at least some who claim to be singers) who try to sport the look and just don’t make the grade. Check out Fergie. I don’t get the point of a black bootie cutting off your legs at the ankle. This is just not an attractive fashion statement. On the other hand, Christina Aguilera does manage to capture the essence of how the bootie was meant to be worn, even though it is with a skirt. The dark stocking make all the difference.

I would think that a super model would be able to pull off this look with the right style. But super model status does not insure fashion sense. Karolina Kurkova not only has a weird pose, but those booties look hideous. I do have to give do no wrong, on the fashion scene at least, Kate Moss does the bootie good. She even makes leggings look good.

Ashanti does a decent job with booties, tucking her skinny leg jeans into the top of hers. But Pam Anderson doesn’t get it. But who is looking at Pam Anderson’s shoes anyway except a woman like me who has nothing better to do than write about shoes…

For all my love of shoes and boots, booties are one trend that’ i’m going to leave alone.

Well, the best thing about the Academy Awards 2007 is that they are over. I was checking out pictures to see the best shoes, and that was nearly impossible as most of the actresses attending wore dresses that flowed over their over priced shoes. A few crowd pleasers definitely put their best foot forward (best leg, best hip…). Beyonce’ worked the camera and that split in her dress like crazy. Her gorgeous silver shoes have that platform that gives me the impression that she’s got Gucci on. Just speculation.

A certain miss on the shoe circuit was Lucy Lawless.
She’s just not your glamour girl. And these shoes with her toes hanging off the end, look horrible. Lucy is a tall girl, which i’m sure translates to a big foot (which I have as well), so Lucy, if you are wearing open toed shoes, at least buy your size. This is not a time to skimp. Toes dangling over the ends of your shoes look BAD!

Another sure fire miss was Kanye’s girl Alexis. Skyrocketing platform stilettos combined with an ultra mini dress may work at the club, but not at a black tie affair like the Oscars. Plus the shoes, no matter how much they cost are just plain ugly. Kanye has got great style, so maybe he needs to start a little shoe counseling for his girlfriend eh?

Model Helena Christiensen hasn’t lost her model talents. Not only does she have on fabulous shoes that work with her gorgeous gown, but she workd the red carpet like a pro. Like a seasoned pro. It’s nice to see that all those years of working the catwalk haven’t gone to waste. So many models look like they haven’t learned a darn thing from years of wearing couture clothing and being draped by the best in design. Helena was an Oscar night shoe HIT!

Beyonce’ has been pretty much flawless at each Dreamgirls premiere. She definitely shines at the Paris premiere in a cocktail length dress that accentuates her ample curves. I however am a shoe woman, so I was quite impressed with the darling sandles that she wore. They seem to be made specifically for her dress! The black and jewel encrusted shoes complemented her black dress with the dazzling bodice. My only complaint — a little color on her toe nails would have topped of her look. Beyonce’ has certainly grown up with her fashion tastes. She looks beautiful, elegant and sophisticated at 25.

I’m big on celebrity shoe sightings. So I noticed that for People’s Choice Awards, Halle Berry was wearing shoes from a prior event. Is that such a bad thing? Should celebs recycle their shoes?

I was having a very hard time thinking of something new and original to write today, and then i saw this picture from the “Pursuit of Happyness” - London Premiere - Red Carpet Arrivals. Suddenly I realized I could add to my pet peeves category of rants. Now, when I look at this photo, there are a plethora of pet peeves that I instantly see. I keep asking myself, “How much attention does one person need?” Clearly she’s not wearing any underwear and what looks like two table cloths held together with some ribbon.

But this blog isn’t about tacky dressing. It’s about shoes. So take a gander at Sophia Hyatt’s feet. PET PEEVE: Toes hanging off the edge of sandals. I cringe when summer comes around for this very reason. Then she steps all over a second pet peeve. If you wear sandals, polish your toe nails.

This woman has to be the epitome of trashy. I googled her name, and it seems that she loves the trashy dressing crown. Thank goodness I couldn’t find anymore pictures of her feet.

I’m really over all the Lindsay Lohan frenzy. But I have to give the girl credit. She has great taste. She always looks fabulous when arriving at events. I don’t know about leaving events, but her poses for the paparazzi are spectacular. Well, I’m probably just gushing because she has such an awesome shoe wardrobe. As a girl who LOVES Christian Louboutin shoes, and has to pinch pennies for a SINGLE pair, I’m in awe at her Louboutin collection. At least what we see on the red carpet. How does that exquisite red leather sole manage to creep into pictures? Do the stars learn how to pose so as to show off the new Louboutins?

On a serious note, how did our society evolve to one where teenage girls wear shoes that cost hundreds of dollars? What does this tell my daughters about the value of material things? Does it really matter that they make millions and can afford a lavish lifestyle? When I think of how I save my pennies to purchase a pair of pricy shoes that I just love, I cringe at the thought of a teen buying the same item with abandon.

For me as a parent, it’s imperative to instill not only values regarding morals, civic duty and charity with my daughters. But values regarding a cold hard cash are equally important. While it’s a pleasure to have beautiful expensive things (shoes in particular), true happiness in life comes from fulfilling oneself mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

And a new pair of shoes once in a while doesn’t hurt either.

Gucci made a beautiful platform pump this year. Well, a few versions of the platfrom pump. I love these shoes. It has a nice pointy toe, the perfect heel height and a subtle platform. Apparently J Lo and Pam Anderson love them too.

So you may be wondering, how do you know that the shoe is Gucci? Well, just think about a car you love. A Porsche C4 Carrera Cabriolet for example. How do you know it’s a C4? Because you love the car and if you don’t own one, you probably dream about it or have it on your screensaver on your computer. Ditto shoes. Not that they are on my screensaver, but the images are indelibly printed on my mind. Plus it says Gucci right on the outside front of the platform. Now check out Pam Andersons Gucci. Same platform, but a sassier Red Open Toe Ankle Strap version. Matches her personna wouldn’t you say?

Given that Mariska Hargitay plays a cop on TV, who would have assumed that she wore such beautiful shoes? I didn’t. But I should have known better. She’s a hollywood chick, of course she wears awesome shoes. Check these our from a recent outing of Markisa’s. Pam Anderson, not necessarily known for her shoes, donated a pair of hers to Heather Mills (wife of Sir Paul McCartney of Beatles fame) celebrity shoe auction to benefit MAG.

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is one of the world’s leading humanitarian organisations providing conflict-affected countries with a real chance for a better future.

Says MAG, “We clear the remnants of conflict from some of the world’s poorest nations, we educate and employ local people and help provide solutions for those trapped by poverty and economic devastation through no fault of their own.”

The auction is being hosted by Ebay where you too can bid on a pair of Pam Anderson’s signed Stella McCartney Stilettos.

What’s up with Jessica Simpson’s shoes? They look like were made for Minnie Mouse, that’s what? At the launch of Blockbuster Total Access earlier this month, Jessica showed up in a frumpy at best dress, with ugly grandma looking red shoes. Who dressed this girl? If she was trying to put the hose on her hot Daisy Dukes of Hazard look, this certainly was full fledged watering down.

At an event for Dukes of Hazzard, her Daisy Duke shoes didn’t even fit. Any self respecting fashionista knows that you can’t wear stockings with slide in open toe mules.

Halle Berry is about at hot as they come. I’m a woman and I have to give her props. She’s 40 and she looks AWESOME. Her red carpet appearances are nothing less than spectacular. (I’ve been trying to figure out how they keep morphing her head onto my body in pictures though. I’m gonna sue!)
Anyway, I was shocked to see her wear such an inappropriate pair of shoes at the 2006 BAFTA LA Cunard Britania Awards. Now, I know if you are a guy you are saying, “Oh, she’s just hating”, or “Shoes? Who’s looking at shoes?” No, that’s not the case. I just like to see my girl representing on all fronts. Even shoes. Let’s take a look:

Fabulous fuschia evening gown. Split up to there. Plenty of polished leg showing. Scroll down though. I don’t get those ugly platform sandals she has on. Why not a gorgeous metallic sandal with jewel embelishment? Or a stylish satin stappy number? Now, that particular shoe would look fine with a more casual outfit I’m sure. But, it’s just not working with this dress Halle. Fire that stylist. Hire me. I’ll shop for your shoes!

Can’t miss that red leather Christian Louboutin sole. Especially on celebrities. Check out the classic Louboutin Rachel Stevens is wearing at the James Bond Casino Royale Premier. I do think that at strappy metallic with some glitzy stones would have done better, but oh well. At least the shoes are Christian.

Now, our favorite skinny girl to dis, Nicole Ritchie. She’s wearing very hot Christian Louboutin platform peep toe pumps, but those legs. I think that she must be having difficulty lifting her leg. The shoes look like they may be holding her to earth in case a gust of wind appears out of nowhere.

Great shoes. Just not worn so well. Needless to say, I could do a much better job wearing either pair…
