What’s New with Hurley Shoes?

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

The Hurley brand started in the late 70s as a surf board company in Southern California. And then in the 80s branched out into the clothing line with a brother company named Billabong. Billabong and Hurley joined forces in 1998 and the Billabong brand soon became obsolete and Hurley took over as the main brand of clothing name as well with the surfboards. With the branching out of the Hurley clothing line comes some very well made and great styled shoes that look great on anyone, even if you aren’t a surfer. Here are some of the great styles that caught Shoe Boxers attention right away.

• Hurley Bonzai:
Durable leather upper provides comfort and support.
Logo quarter lay.
Goes with any outfit ready to hit the beach or the town.
Rubber outsole provides great traction.
Perforated detail for increased breath ability and style.
Padded collar and foot bed for increased comfort.

• Hurley Movement:
Great sandal for fun in the sun.
Perforated leather strap.
Super fabric construction.
Perforated leather foot bed.
Soft EVA insole.
Sectional rubber foot bed for superior traction and flex.

• Hurley Women’s Movement:
Lightly polished full grain leather upper in a casual skate.
Webbed fabric toe thong post.
Light weight.
Perforation accents.
Stitched center seam embellishment.
Hurley logo hang tag.

Of course these three are just a sample of the wonderful styles, inspired by surfing that Hurley has to offer. Check out their web page on the net or look for the top, seasonal and in style looks at any high end or surf-carrying style shop nationwide. There is enough styles by Hurley to satisfy anyone’s fashion sense.

Flexible Toes said to be the Secret to Healthier Feet

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Yoga is becoming more and more popular with everyone of any age and any culture. More yoga inspired healing tips are being given by doctors for patience with back injuries or those suffering from headaches even. With this rise comes “yoga-inspired” products to help with that cause. One of these products I happened to have stumbled across when I was thumbing through the pages of the Dream Products Catalog. They are selling a product similar to Yoga Toes called Flexible Toes.

These Flexible Toes are to help relieve the pain from hammer toes, and bunions, as well as many other complications your toes or even your feet give you during the day or night. They are said to relieve stress on the feet that can cause serious issue and health problems later. Some of these issues may lead to back pain or even back problems that become more serious.

These Flexible Toes help realign the bones and help stretch the Achilles tendons which in turn helps relieve pain and stress that are caused by other issues. This helps increase flexibility and even helps with circulation within the foot and the rest of the body. You just wear them for 10 minutes a day and the relief can be felt right away. With continued use, the benefits can be a great way to help your feet and the rest of your body regain it’s youthful health. They are made of comfortable, stretchy foam and are easy to wear. You can pick up a set of two for under $13, right off their website, by clicking here.

Quick Slip-on Shoes for any Occasion and any Woman

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

shoe1.jpg1. Canvas “Jack Purcell Dance”: A super-clean, subtle nod to the classic Jack Purcell ($45); Slip these on and you’ll almost forget they’re there. The lightweight, breathable canvas upper and soft micro suede lining wrap around your foot like a slipper, while the flexible foot bed and durable rubber outsole provide surprising support. The smile on the toe cap reflects a happy pair of feet.

2. Hemp “Carousel” ($50): These have an earthy charm that doesn’t veer into crunchy territory; Made of hemp, certified organic cotton lining, recycled car tire pedbeds, 100% post consumer paper pulp foot forms. Eco-friendly and more than just a shoe. It will cushion your foot with every step you make and will keep up with every step as well when it comes time to buy new. Be sure and recycle the shoe when it’s time has come.

3. Leather-Trim “Refreshment” ($69): Very gamine. Just add a comfy tee and a pair of Capri’s and get going. Big, flouncy laces give a pretty/sporty look to this delicate pair of shoes. Nothing says ahhhh like a day of shopping and your feet not hurting at the end of your spending spree. No woman likes to rub her feet after shopping, we would rather be showing off our new purchases. These shoes can help in that wonderful escapade.

4. Canvas and Leather “Queen” from Royal Elastics ($60): Like old-school hip-hop[ sneakers mixed with country hospital nursing shoes, but it doesn’t look too hospital and it totally works with any outfit. Not only are they comfortable they are also functional. Nurses are in the business to be on their feet for hours, why not out that same concept in summertime casual shoe anyone can wear anywhere?

5. Canvas “Audrey” ($80): This playful rummage of stripes and plaids is Nantucket done really chicly. They bring in the feel of the island boat house to the city streets and bring the flair of color and the casual of comfort with them. They have loads of possibilities with any outfit and go awesome with a all color or fun print style Capri. Get them while they are on sale at Zappos and save money before more women grab them up.

Holy 80s Shoe Flashback to Jelly Shoes

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

jelly.jpgLet’s start this 80s journey with jelly shoes. You had them, don’t lie. Every girl who was anyone had a pair and even if yours were falling apart and the plastic was coming apart from the bottom of the shoe you wore them.

Ultimately, jelly shoes were a flat shoe and some had a thick, clunky heel in a matching color to the shoe itself. The heels were usually low, maxing out at around two inches. And came in every color ranging from the classic black or white, to pastels or neon colors with glitter. There are many shoes that have taken the place of jelly shoes since the 80s but nothing can compare the jelly shoe no matter how hard a company tries.

These shoes got their name from the product they were made from–jelly rubber, a type of porous PVC rubber. The material didn’t feel much like jelly at all. In fact, they were quite hard and slightly uncomfortable with extended wear. The straps rubbed and caused blisters if you weren’t careful. If your feet got wet or sweaty, they’d slide around in the shoe. But, without a doubt jelly shoes were worn at the lakes, rivers and even beaches, even if a blister came later. The bottom line was, kids and some adults loved jelly shoes. Mainly because they were cheap, price wise.

Jelly shoes can still be purchased from the 80s style all the way up to the newer styles out in this modern world. If you still have a pair of jellies and would like to become an article piece here on Shoeboxers, drop me a message with the story behind your jelly shoes and why you love them still today.

Crocs®

crocs.jpgYeah, I know, you would never wear them and won’t be caught running through the jungle from a jaguar in them, because ultimately, they are plastic shoes with holes in them. But, Crocs® first arrival onto the world of fashion, they were the cat’s meow to a lot of people. I even own a pair that I use for gardening. But, Crocs® are more than just the random slip on shoe that have even gotten cheap imitation made of them from companies such as Payless. Their imitation brand, called Air Walks go for as little as $10 a pair and come in a varitey of colors just like Crocs® do. But, with you get a popularity of cheap shoe wearers not wanting to pay the Crocs® price.

Crocs® have come along way since Waldies that came out in 2001. There is now all sorts of styles. Themed Crocs®, colorful Crocs® and even Crocs® that have a faux wool lining. They are a mix of clogs and comfort, made of a patented closed-cell resin that is said to be warmed by your feet so they soften and mold to their shape. They are a great shoe for boating or water-wading. The molded material is extremely lightweight, cushy, has a built-in arch support, has anti-slip soles and is anti-microbial. You can get them dirty, then wash them off without any damage.

The medical benefits of Crocs® :
• Ergonomically certified to significantly reduce fatigue during use

• Shock absorbing - imitation load on feet, lower legs, knees, hips and lower back.

• Resistant to mildew and fungi, including Athlete’s Foot

• Anatomically designed heel and medial arch support prevents rotation of the foot, Plantar Fasciitis (heel spurs) and other heel conditions

• Wide base increases stability

• Ventilation ports reduce foot temperature

• Roomy forefoot helps prevent pinch injuries and reduces risk of bunions.

• Passive retaining back strap reduces load and fatigue when walking

• Foot bed surface massages and stimulates blood circulation in foot and lower leg to help prevent and heal injuries

• Slip resistant

Shoes? I Love Shoes

Friday, January 25th, 2008

orange-shoes.jpgHi, I’m Shelly and I have recently aquired Shoeboxers. I plan on talking mainly about shoes of course but may venture off to other topics such as the feet, or back or anything connected to the feet. I am sort of curious as to where I will take this blog as well. So we shall see how well I am ontop of my shoe knowledge. I have quite a few shoes and would love to just talk about them all day, but I know that it would become boring of course, if I haven’t lost you already.

Hopefully I can make this blog into something it’s never been before and that would be a high-traffic, fact bearing blog. I know there are a lot of new designers out there now and I will try my best to stay in the know about most of them. I even had the idea to interview a shoe salesman and see where that leads. Reflexology is a big part of the feet and the feet go inside of shoes, so I may hit on that a time or two just for fun.

I attended massage school for a year and a half and learned that the back is also connected to the feet and the way we walk on our soles. There is a lot I learned as far as feet go so this blog will touch on all sorts of shoe/feet related topics. I hope I can count on readers to visit here daily and maybe with this knowledge I post here and the latest shoe trends from some of the hottest designers, it will give you needed knowledge to pick out the right shoes for your god-given feet.

Avril Levigne has Ugly Shoes

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

I love checking out the red carpet arrivals. In particular the shoes on the soles of the divas at those red carpet arrivals. Most recently I had the opportunity to check out Avril Levigne at her recent CD release party. Now, she was made up to the nines. But those Doc Martins do not go with that tuille skirt that she is sporting. I love Doc Martins. I dressed my daughters in them for years. But come on Avril, grow up.

Flips Have Taken Over My Life

Friday, May 11th, 2007

redflipflops.jpg

If you have read this blog at least once, you know that I am a stilletto loving woman. I really find no use for flip flops. Until now that it is. I’m on vacation in Hawaii (which is why my postings have been close to nil this week), and my shoe of choice has been non other than the flip flop. When I was a kid, these things were called thongs. But alas, the word thong has taken on a whole new connotation which we will not discuss at this moment in time. I can however say that in casual Hawaii, the flip flop is the ideal shoe.

I happen to be watching my Golden State Warriors in the NBA Semi-finals at the moment, and just so happened to stumble on these NBA flip flops. I thought those guys wore sneakers!

And if you want somer really hot flip flops, you have got to check out Nine West.

Ashley Olsen and Christian Louboutin?

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I suppose when you are a billionaire teen and your favorite shoe designer is Christian Louboutin, that can get you a date with the king of Red Carpet Heels. Ashley and Christian Louboutin were together at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Benefit Gala. I’m sure Ashely was wearing Christian Louboutin shoes, but you just can’t see them under that floor sweeping gown she has on. She does look elegant, I must say.

olsensmet.jpg

There were plenty of other stars there as well — Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss, Salma Hayek. Supermodels were abundant, so no doubt there were thousands of dollars of Christian Louboutin shoes sprinkled among the crowd.
Reports Frillr:
While Lindsay Lohan’s lawyers are demanding that England’s News of the World newspaper produce a videotape they claim shows her snorting cocaine, the freckled beauty squeezed into a revealing Goth dress for a night on the town.

Lindsay Lohan joined a bevy of stars who donned their worst for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute benefit gala

Metallic silver, platinum and gold dominated the event, and continuing the trend Sienna Miller started last year , minis shocked fashionistas reports New York Post.

Jennifer Lopez dazzled in Marchesa, Jennifer Hudson redeemed herself a tiny bit after the Oscar disaster in Michael Kors, and Jennifer Connelly and Eva Mendes looked chic in silver. Jessica Simpson looked tragic with her fake tan and exposed chest.

Beauty Cate Blanchett, who was co-chair of the event wore a Balenciaga gold fringe on the carpet. The actress shocked gossips with her new heroin chic look. Melania Trump went with a gold Michael Kors.

A sober looking Kate Moss wore a tiered chiffon gown, Salma Hayek wore black velvet.

Christina Ricci wore a strapless Calvin Klein , and Mischa Barton looked chic in Giambattista Valli

Kirsten Dunst and Kate Bosworth went for a flapper slut look. Kate Bosworth wore a Prada cocktail dress. Kirsten Dunst wore vintage Yves Saint Laurent.

Cameron Diaz went fuschia and Lucy Liu went purple. Diaz’s ready-to-wear Dior dress looked like a low budget version of the couture dress ,

Mary Kate Olsen dazzled in a black feathered gown which is receiving mixed reviews. Ashley Olsen played it safe in a white dress , her date was shoe designer Christian Louboutin.

Yves Saint Laurent Introduces the Hottest Heels for Spring

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

So you thought you were really working it in those 4 inch stilettos? Forget it sister. Yves Saint Laurent has introduced a towering 5 1/2 inch stiletto platform that has all the A list Hollywood divas lining up.
Reports RAAKHEE MIRCHANDANI of Page Six:

pulse073a.jpg

The must-have shoe for spring is the “Tribute” from Yves Saint Laurent, adorned with a towering 5 1/2-inch heel. Sold out in most New York retailers, it’s one of the tallest high-fashion shoes ever produced - yet celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani can’t wait to walk at elevations usually reserved for Las Vegas dancers and Vivid Video actresses.

The $640-$660 Mary Jane style comes in four colors: violet, red, black suede and black leather. The slingback version comes in violet, black leather and green suede. Adding to the walking challenge - and the reason the heel can go so high - is the 11/2-inch platform on the front of the shoe.

BuLuckily, the “Tribute” also comes in a more manageable 3 1/2 -inch version. If you’re a wimp.

Check out Christina Aguilera working the super sexy, super high heel YSL Mary Jane.

Shoe collectors and shoe fetishes alike will be clamoring for this hot shoe. It’s sure to be a classic.

Check out Pastry for Sweet Sneakers

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Sweets for your feet? That’s exactly what Vanessa and Angela Simmons, daughters of Rev Run of Run DMC fame have cooked up. Most recently featured on Run’s House the two young entrepreneurs have already reached reality TV fame. Now they have launched a new sneaker line — Pastry. It’s no wonder these two young women have produced a line of fashion footwear — they are the neices of urban fashion moguls Russel Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons, founders of Phat Farm and Baby Phat. Kimora more recently launched her perfume and makeup line at Sephora.

20070329_inq_ewgpastry29z-a.jpg

The line features colorful, mid-priced athletic-inspired shoes in multiple styles for young women.
Every pair of shoes comes with a tube of scented lipgloss attached to it matching the shoe’s theme. Maybe that sweet touch is due to Aunti Kimora’s influence.

According to Elizabeth Wellington, Inquirer Fashion Writer:

13829299451press52200785905am.jpg

Pastry is available locally at Sneaker Villa, where they retail for $65. Cake is the shoe line’s first collection, comprising four sneakers: Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Mousse, Sprinkles, and Red Velvet, each designed to look like the sweet it represents. Strawberry Shortcake is pink and white, for example; red velvet has a red lining, and the outside is striped in pink and ecru.

Angela, a 19-year-old sophomore at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, came up with the Sprinkles sneaker. “I bake a Pillsbury cake called Confetti,” she said. “Inside the cake are sprinkles that burst inside after you bake it. That’s where I came up with that concept.”

Pam Anderson Christian Louboutin Sighting

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Now, I don’t really think of Pam Anderson as a designer shoe girl. But she is. I spotted her with a pair of Gucci platform pumps that I could die for. And now here Pam is at a PETA event wearaing a gorgeous beige suede Christian Louboutin peep toe pump. Pamela Anderson was introducing PETA Chief Dan Mathews at L.A. Times Festival of Books but the shoes got my attention. I know that it’s typical for stars, models etc, to put tape on the bottom of their shoes, but Pam, take the tape off when you are showing that gorgeous Christian Louboutin red leather sole!
