Shoe Boxers

If you have read this blog at least once, you know that I am a stilletto loving woman. I really find no use for flip flops. Until now that it is. I’m on vacation in Hawaii (which is why my postings have been close to nil this week), and my shoe of choice has been non other than the flip flop. When I was a kid, these things were called thongs. But alas, the word thong has taken on a whole new connotation which we will not discuss at this moment in time. I can however say that in casual Hawaii, the flip flop is the ideal shoe.

I happen to be watching my Golden State Warriors in the NBA Semi-finals at the moment, and just so happened to stumble on these NBA flip flops. I thought those guys wore sneakers!

I suppose when you are a billionaire teen and your favorite shoe designer is Christian Louboutin, that can get you a date with the king of Red Carpet Heels. Ashley and Christian Louboutin were together at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Benefit Gala. I’m sure Ashely was wearing Christian Louboutin shoes, but you just can’t see them under that floor sweeping gown she has on. She does look elegant, I must say.

There were plenty of other stars there as well — Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss, Salma Hayek. Supermodels were abundant, so no doubt there were thousands of dollars of Christian Louboutin shoes sprinkled among the crowd.

A sober looking Kate Moss wore a tiered chiffon gown, Salma Hayek wore black velvet.

Christina Ricci wore a strapless Calvin Klein , and Mischa Barton looked chic in Giambattista Valli

Kirsten Dunst and Kate Bosworth went for a flapper slut look. Kate Bosworth wore a Prada cocktail dress. Kirsten Dunst wore vintage Yves Saint Laurent.

Cameron Diaz went fuschia and Lucy Liu went purple. Diaz’s ready-to-wear Dior dress looked like a low budget version of the couture dress ,

Mary Kate Olsen dazzled in a black feathered gown which is receiving mixed reviews. Ashley Olsen played it safe in a white dress , her date was shoe designer Christian Louboutin.

So you thought you were really working it in those 4 inch stilettos? Forget it sister. Yves Saint Laurent has introduced a towering 5 1/2 inch stiletto platform that has all the A list Hollywood divas lining up.

Sold out in most New York retailers, it’s one of the tallest high-fashion shoes ever produced - yet celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani can’t wait to walk at elevations usually reserved for Las Vegas dancers and Vivid Video actresses.

Sweets for your feet? That’s exactly what Vanessa and Angela Simmons, daughters of Rev Run of Run DMC fame have cooked up. Most recently featured on Run’s House the two young entrepreneurs have already reached reality TV fame. Now they have launched a new sneaker line — Pastry. It’s no wonder these two young women have produced a line of fashion footwear — they are the neices of urban fashion moguls Russel Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons, founders of Phat Farm and Baby Phat. Kimora more recently launched her perfume and makeup line at Sephora.

The line features colorful, mid-priced athletic-inspired shoes in multiple styles for young women.
Every pair of shoes comes with a tube of scented lipgloss attached to it matching the shoe’s theme. Maybe that sweet touch is due to Aunti Kimora’s influence.

Cake is the shoe line’s first collection, comprising four sneakers: Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Mousse, Sprinkles, and Red Velvet, each designed to look like the sweet it represents. Strawberry Shortcake is pink and white, for example; red velvet has a red lining, and the outside is striped in pink and ecru.

Angela, a 19-year-old sophomore at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, came up with the Sprinkles sneaker. “I bake a Pillsbury cake called Confetti,” she said. “Inside the cake are sprinkles that burst inside after you bake it. That’s where I came up with that concept.”

Now, I don’t really think of Pam Anderson as a designer shoe girl. But she is. I spotted her with a pair of Gucci platform pumps that I could die for. And now here Pam is at a PETA event wearaing a gorgeous beige suede Christian Louboutin peep toe pump. Pamela Anderson was introducing PETA Chief Dan Mathews at L.A. Times Festival of Books but the shoes got my attention. I know that it’s typical for stars, models etc, to put tape on the bottom of their shoes, but Pam, take the tape off when you are showing that gorgeous Christian Louboutin red leather sole!

Now if we could just get her to work on that wardrobe.

It seems like I have been on this red shoe kick for awhile. First it was the updated Mary Jane from the Grandaddy of sexy shoes, Manolo Blahnik. Now it’s these gorgeous red patent peep toe pumps from Dolce & Gabbana. I can see these with everything from jeans, crop pants, capris, hot pants, evening dresses, little black dresses, mini dresses. Heck, no dresses for that matter. Just wear the shoes and let them do the work!

My favorite B girl, Beyonce’ was spotted arriving in Australia wearing no other than the IT shoe — Christian Louboutin. She looked hot too, with yet another hair style, no doubt one of her many wigs…

I have to hand it to Jessica Simpson’s shoe folks. They have done an excellent job of interpreting trends and giving them a great price point. Not too cheap — not your Payless variety shoes, but not too expensive either. Her platforms were a huge hit last year. And now, she has interpreted that cone heel that Marc Jacobs has done such a beautiful job on.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an investment shoe, just compare the quality of workmanship on a pair of Marc Jacobs and on Jessica Simpson’s.

Hillary Duff is the latest celebrity to be spotted in the SAME pair of Christian Louboutin shoes. Actually she is almost the same outfit from head to toe. I believe in being pracatical, but can’t we mix it up a bit Hillary?

I was in a horrible car accident when I was 20. Broke nearly everything there is to break in my body. After I came to a couple days later, my first words were, “Where are my shoes?” Never mind that my best friend and I were in ICU fighting for life. All I cared about were those beautiful wooden sole platform shoe with a perfect heel with long wrap ties. They were classic! I could wear them today and no one would shudder and think “vintage”. Yes, my shoe addiction goes back for years and years. And so does my love of platforms.

I finally figured out that I’m pretty basic when it comes to fashion. I love fine details, good quality, impressive fabrics and leathers. But what I don’t like is a bunch of frou frou. You know, bows, frills, excess. To that end, the bulk of my wardrobe is black and white, with a spot of color here and there. So therefore most of my shoes are non other that your basic black. Well, I’ll regress a moment. I do have a few pair of animal print, red patent, pink lacy stiletos, metallic sandals, snakeskin wedges in an odd color. But alas, I’m your basic black girl.

So when I saw InStyle’s feature on Floral footwear, I was prepared to be disgusted. But, I’m pleasantly surprised. I actually think I could stomach a pair of these shoes with a cute little summer frock. Or paired with capris while I’m cruising Santorini. Ok, wake up Tracey.

So I’m a little late on the bandwagon with this story, but I decided to add my two cents anyway. Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, wife of hottie soccer superstar David Beckham had the ultimate materialistic birthday from her hubby. While most women are satisfied if their husbands even remember their birthday within the proper week, let alone think of getting a card and/or present, that Posh Victoria Beckham was first whisked away from the US to Paris via private jet. Then she was treated to a private shopping spree at Christian Louboutin in Paris. Yes, the boutique close down for the Beckhams. Reportedly, Miss Vick picked out a pair of $1500 Christian Louboutin Shoes.

And the shopping didn’t end there. They proceeded on to Azzedine Alaia where she spent thousands. Of course there was more shopping and an evening that culinated at the Ritz Carlton.

And us ordinary girls save our pennies for the half yearly sale at Nordies…

Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund

April 16, 2007, will be remembered as one of the darkest days in the history of the Virginia Tech community and the world beyond.

It looks like Mary Janes are having a major fashion comeback. Not that they ever really left. I recently wrote about how the mary jane has grown up, and it seems that the Hollywood girls are working them like mad. Paris Hilton loves them, as does Jenna Jameson, Carmen Electra and Ciara.
