What Shoes to Wear with What Dress

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Are you ever confused about getting your shoe look right with your dress choice? No need to worry. Piperlime has made it easy to make fashion sense when it comes to your shoe selection.

Dress type: Mini
Despite the numerous women you see wearing stilettos, platforms and other towering shoes with their minis, this look spells HOOCHIE! Don’t do it. Keep your look feminine and flirty, in particular for day. Try a look like this:

nmt102y_mn.jpg 0474770619050_astl_300x400.jpg

Dress type: Wrap

My all time favorite dress style. So complimentary for the hour glass figure and ideal for faking one. Diane Von Furstenburg continues to design the wrap like noone else. Shoes to wear? Classic and elegant. Piperlime recommends a refined city sandal.

Wedges and chunky heel peep toes are the perfect companion to wrap dresss for day.

Now, no need to look out of style with your dress or your shoes.

Happy shopping!

For the press event introducing the event, Drew wore non other than the king of the red carpet shoes, Christian Louboutin. Who would have thought that green shoes with a red sole would look so stunning with a yellow Carolina Herrera sheath. Drew pulls it off fabulously!

Great Shoes for Large Sizes

Friday, April 13th, 2007

I have big feet, size 11 to be exact. The club of girls with size 11’s is by no means small. Even Paris Hilton is a size 11, as are many girls that are tall. But we are discriminated against by the buyers in shoe stores. Just check out the sale racks. There are TONS of shoes from 5-9. But get over a size 10 and there is nothing there. Why? Because there weren’t that many in the first place to buy, and when a big foot girls see a cute shoe in her size, gues what? We buy it, sale or no sale.

One of my readers asked this question a few days ago:

Hi Tracey,

I hope it’s ok for me to post this here but I was wondering if you had
any tips for people with large and wide feet seeking stylish shoes.
Payless shoes is pretty much the only option we girls of size 11W (and
larger) feet have! I’d love to read on what options are out there for
women with large and wide feet, and I’m sure my narrow footed sisters
would love to read about shoes for them too!

Thanks!

One of my fellow bloggers, Andrea has an excellent site for large shoe sizes, with many options listed. I happen to shop at Nordstrom on a regular basis and they do a great job with large sizes. The key for me has been that I am a regular shopper. Not that I always buy, but I’m seen frequently in the store. I have one person that helps me. He knows what I like. So when new arrivals are fresh in the store, guess who gets the first call on size 11’s? That’s right, none other than the shoe diva herself!

Here is my latest score, a super comfortable and stylish Taryn Rose wedge from Nordies:_5380320.jpg

So I would suggest the same for you. If there is a local store that you patronize, let them know your wants and needs. Believe me, anyone shoe sales person would love to just have someone they can call for a quick sale!

Also, for online shopping, Zappos does lots of stylish shoes in large sizes. I mean LOTS!

I hope this is helpful!

Rock & Republic Rock New Shoes

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Rock & Republic, best known for their genius jeans, has some pretty cute shoes on tap for summer. I still have a hard time paying over $50 for a pair of jeans, so jeans that start over $200 are just not in my blood. But shoes, that’s a whole new ball game. While I belive in paying for leather, preferably Italian nappa leather, for my shoes, Rock & Republic’s fabric shoes for spring and summer are appealing. They are probably worn best with a pair of their famous jeans that the rich and famous seem to love.

Justin — Where are your Sneakers?

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Justin Timberlake is known for wearing sneakers with EVERYTHING! When performing, partying, even when dressed to the nines. It was sort of his signature style. Jeans and sneakers. Suits and sneakers. But it seems that now that he claims he’s brought sexy back, he’s upgraded his shoe selection too.

Old Justin

New Dapper Justin

Even when performing for a bunch of kids at the Nickelodeon Awards, Justin Timberlake managed to look so polished and grown up. I guess he’s starting to belive his own hype about bringing sexy back. Although I heard Prince boast that sexy never left…

Naomi Campbell Spikes Sales of Christian Louboutin Boots

Monday, April 9th, 2007

I would love to wear $1,500 Christian Louboutin boots to work to mop and wash windows. That’s exactly what Naomi Campbell strutted on her way to report for her cleaning duty — punishment for throwing a crytsal studded Blackberry at her assistant.

As reported by the New York Post:

Reformed supermodel NAOMI CAMPBELL’s community service wardrobe has lead to a huge demand for Christian Louboutin boots.

news003b.jpg

The English beauty, 36, wore a string of expensive, designer labels as she arrived every day for her week-long stint at New York City’s Sanitation Department last month (MAR07). Once inside, she changed into department regulation workwear.
Campbell was ordered to clean the department as punishment for attacking her maid ANA SCOLAVINO in March 2006.
One of the mornings she arrived for work, Campbell wowed the paparazzi in a pair of spike-heeled Louboutin boots, of which only a few existed.
Campbell explains, “One my first day I wore a Ralph Lauren coat, a cashmere shawl and Christina Louboutin boots. Christian got 12 hundred orders from that day.
“He wasn’t going to make those boots - now he is.”

Eco-Friendly Shoes

Monday, April 9th, 2007

There are lots of folks out there that are into sustainable living. I try to do my part, although I have to admit, i’m not even 25% of the way there. I happened on this company that had some shoes featured on InStyle, Simple Shoes. Their own brand Green Toe shoes are made 100% Sustainable.

9174-mdnv-prod.jpg
About the Company:

Who We Are
With all the over-built, over-hyped products out there, its pretty hard to find comfortable shoes that you can live with. So we started Simple, your stereotypical, anti-stereotype brand offering good shoes and a big dose of reality. About a gazillion pairs later… give or take a few… weve managed to learn a few things. Well, actually a lot of things. And none more important than this: HOW we make our shoes is just as important as WHY we make them. That means finding more sustainable ways of doing business so we can make a gazillion more. Which pretty much is where we are today… at the crossroads of here and now, aware of our responsibility to the planet while trying to pay the bills. The nice little shoe company getting in touch with its inner hippie.

Our Process
Sometimes our progress is notable while at other times the improvements are harder to come by. The important thing is were committed to making our product 100% sustainable. Finding materials and processes that make our products sustainable is a method we call Green Toe. It isnt a magical formula, or a cure. It is a compass that, we hope, points to a bright green future. Progress in Green Toe is measured with a scale called good, better, best. The best category represents our most sustainable shoes and bags and sets the bar for the rest of the line. Moving forward these same innovative materials and constructions will be found in the good and better categories, raising the bar for the best products.

Pretty nifty, huh?

Nicky Hilton Strikes Christian Louboutin Gold

Friday, April 6th, 2007

Okay, I guess I’m on a celebrity-Christian Louboutin-wearing-hate binge. Yesterday it’s Halle wearing my favorite Louboutin’s. Today it’s Nicky Hilton. I rhink I need a new job. One that blesses me with an infinite array of gorgeous designer shoes.

nicky.jpg

So what if Nicky can spend $720 on a new pair of Cbristian Louboutin shoes. I will just get these knock offs for $39.99.

Umm, don’t think so. Can’t do it. I’ll just save up for the real thing.

Halle’s Wearing My Shoes

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

13484499451press44200732737pm.jpg

Halle just got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and I’m really proud of her. But why did she have to wear my favorite pair of Christian Louboutin shoes for which I’m saving. And saving. And saving. Darn her. Isn’t it enough to be beautiful, rich, an oscar winning actress, having a model turned restauranteur boyfriend? Nooo, she has to be seen in public with the shoes that I WANT!
Not only that, but she looks so good in them.

Here we see not only a bird’s eye view of Halle’s tush, but that give away red leather Louboutin sole. 13475247451press44200732721pm.jpg 13480201.jpg
And another view of these gorgeous shoes.

Shoes Send a Child To School

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Yesterday I couldn’t think of a thing to write on my blog. I had total writer’s block. And I suppose that was for a reason, because I got the most remarkable comment left on that post. It wasn’t about designer shoes, or what the new trend was. Rather it addressed the needs of children in Africa for shoes. Please read on.

Katelyn Clapham has started a wonderful fund raising drive:

Problem
In rural areas of Africa, schools are widely dispersed and public transportation is scarce, forcing girls to travel long distances to and from school daily. The scorching roads and risk of diseases, like hookworm, make shoes a necessity. Going to school barefoot can also be a source of embarrassment, keeping girls from speaking up in class and getting the most from their education. Unfortunately, the cost of shoes is more than many families can afford.
gift_image_02369_00692_thumbnail.jpg

The Gift
Your donation of $14 will set a girl in Africa on the path to success by providing a pair of sturdy shoes to ease her long journey to school. Her new shoes will also boost her confidence to participate fully in her education. In the words of one student in Ghana who received a pair of shoes from CAMFED: “I now look as neat and proud as any other school-girl.”
Educating girls is the quickest route to alleviating poverty in Africa, but the direct costs of education, including shoes, keep millions of girls out of school each year. Give your loved one a gift that will ensure that one more girl receives the education she needs to lift herself and her family out of poverty. Your donation will also help strengthen the economy in these rural areas of Africa as CAMFED buys items locally whenever possible.

Who Has News about Shoes?

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Today I hit a wall. I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out what to write about shoes. As much as I love shoes, I’m having a terrible time thinking of something inspiring to say. Not that I am all that inspiring, but I just can’t find a focal point for the day. I found a couple celebrity sightings of Christian Louboutin, but I’m bored by that today. I looked at shoe sales, but I’m bored by that too. I checked out some new sites, but those are boring me. Wha’t going on? Do I have writer’s block? Have I lost my lust for shoes? Maybe I need a shot of coffee.

The whole point here is to give me some HELP! What should I write about? What are your most pressing questions about shoes? Do you have rants, raves, need fashion advice. Do you want to show off you new shoes? What’s going on in your world of shoes? Let me know!

Cute Shoes for Cute Kids

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

I usually write about women’s shoes, but I can’t help but remember when I used to buy little girls shoes. They are so darn cute. And this time of the year, all the patent leather styles are available for Easter. So now is the time to stock up on your children’s dress shoes. I never had to buy shoes for little boys, but they have some great styles too. Here are a few that I found that are just darling. I’m a complete fool for Italian shoes, and I bought the same for my daughters.

Check out Primigi ‘Andes’ Mary Jane. Not exactly a budget price point at $54.95, but they are probably so soft for your toddlers feet.

_5367777.jpg _5367483.jpg

And how about this Umi ‘Posey’ T-Strap white with a pink sole. I wish they had that in my size!

And of course, there is good old Stride Rite, they have been doing children’s shoes for years. They always have dependable style for children. Can’t go wrong with your basic black or white patent Mary Jane.
_5223621.jpg _5192998.jpg

For the young man in your life. the dress shoes mimic the most stylish men’s shoes. Kenneth Cole Reaction, priced from $44.95 to $49.95. Available at Nordstrom.

_5252830.jpg _5252824.jpg

Now, just dragging your kids out to get new shoes may be another matter altogether. But if you have the makings of a true shoe diva, it shouldn’t be a problem at all, and I recommend the red patent mayr jane.
