Yves Saint Laurent Introduces the Hottest Heels for Spring

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

So you thought you were really working it in those 4 inch stilettos? Forget it sister. Yves Saint Laurent has introduced a towering 5 1/2 inch stiletto platform that has all the A list Hollywood divas lining up.
Reports RAAKHEE MIRCHANDANI of Page Six:

pulse073a.jpg

The must-have shoe for spring is the “Tribute” from Yves Saint Laurent, adorned with a towering 5 1/2-inch heel. Sold out in most New York retailers, it’s one of the tallest high-fashion shoes ever produced - yet celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani can’t wait to walk at elevations usually reserved for Las Vegas dancers and Vivid Video actresses.

The $640-$660 Mary Jane style comes in four colors: violet, red, black suede and black leather. The slingback version comes in violet, black leather and green suede. Adding to the walking challenge - and the reason the heel can go so high - is the 11/2-inch platform on the front of the shoe.

BuLuckily, the “Tribute” also comes in a more manageable 3 1/2 -inch version. If you’re a wimp.

Check out Christina Aguilera working the super sexy, super high heel YSL Mary Jane.

Shoe collectors and shoe fetishes alike will be clamoring for this hot shoe. It’s sure to be a classic.

Check out Pastry for Sweet Sneakers

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Sweets for your feet? That’s exactly what Vanessa and Angela Simmons, daughters of Rev Run of Run DMC fame have cooked up. Most recently featured on Run’s House the two young entrepreneurs have already reached reality TV fame. Now they have launched a new sneaker line — Pastry. It’s no wonder these two young women have produced a line of fashion footwear — they are the neices of urban fashion moguls Russel Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons, founders of Phat Farm and Baby Phat. Kimora more recently launched her perfume and makeup line at Sephora.

20070329_inq_ewgpastry29z-a.jpg

The line features colorful, mid-priced athletic-inspired shoes in multiple styles for young women.
Every pair of shoes comes with a tube of scented lipgloss attached to it matching the shoe’s theme. Maybe that sweet touch is due to Aunti Kimora’s influence.

According to Elizabeth Wellington, Inquirer Fashion Writer:

13829299451press52200785905am.jpg

Pastry is available locally at Sneaker Villa, where they retail for $65. Cake is the shoe line’s first collection, comprising four sneakers: Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Mousse, Sprinkles, and Red Velvet, each designed to look like the sweet it represents. Strawberry Shortcake is pink and white, for example; red velvet has a red lining, and the outside is striped in pink and ecru.

Angela, a 19-year-old sophomore at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, came up with the Sprinkles sneaker. “I bake a Pillsbury cake called Confetti,” she said. “Inside the cake are sprinkles that burst inside after you bake it. That’s where I came up with that concept.”

Jessica Simpson Knocks off Marc Jacobs

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

I have to hand it to Jessica Simpson’s shoe folks. They have done an excellent job of interpreting trends and giving them a great price point. Not too cheap — not your Payless variety shoes, but not too expensive either. Her platforms were a huge hit last year. And now, she has interpreted that cone heel that Marc Jacobs has done such a beautiful job on.

Unfortunately, this isn’t an investment shoe, just compare the quality of workmanship on a pair of Marc Jacobs and on Jessica Simpson’s.

Flowers on Your Shoes?

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

I finally figured out that I’m pretty basic when it comes to fashion. I love fine details, good quality, impressive fabrics and leathers. But what I don’t like is a bunch of frou frou. You know, bows, frills, excess. To that end, the bulk of my wardrobe is black and white, with a spot of color here and there. So therefore most of my shoes are non other that your basic black. Well, I’ll regress a moment. I do have a few pair of animal print, red patent, pink lacy stiletos, metallic sandals, snakeskin wedges in an odd color. But alas, I’m your basic black girl.

So when I saw InStyle’s feature on Floral footwear, I was prepared to be disgusted. But, I’m pleasantly surprised. I actually think I could stomach a pair of these shoes with a cute little summer frock. Or paired with capris while I’m cruising Santorini. Ok, wake up Tracey.

Every Girl Needs a Pair of Hot Red Shoes

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

I remember the first time I put a pair of red leather European Mary Janes on my little girl. She smiled, her eyes gleamed and she eagerly modeled her shoes for me. She was in love with those shoes. Unfortunately, I passed my love of shoes on to her, as she still has a penchant for cute expensive shoes. The point to this little anecdote is that as grown up girls, we still need red Mary Janes. But we need HOT red Mary Janes. Mary Janes with a stiletto heel. With a grown up red lipstick color. With a wicked pointed toe. Ones that make your legs look hotter than ever. And none other than the granddaddy of hot shoes himself, Manolo Blahnik, has a beautiful red Mary Jane patent snakeskin in his Spring collection. Lets just say the Mary Jane has grown up.

From this:

I’ll let the shoes speak for themselves. They are my latest lust list addition. Available exclulsively at Bergdorf Goodman.

White Hot Shoes!

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

White shoes used to be a taboo after labor day. They were worn strictly in summer only. But now white is the new black, and white shoes are popping up as the color (or non-color) to wear for not only spring and summer, but for winter as well.

Now, I wear a large size shoe; I am admittedly a big foot girl, so I have avoided white shoes like the plague all my life. It’s kind of like that optical illusion of wearing black — you look slimmer. So most of my shoes are that ever-so-fashionable black. But I’m really rethinking the propostion of white shoes. I’m seeing sooo many that are white hot!

nine-west-white-flat.jpg
Check out Nine West – always fashionable and always reasonable. They have a white shoe in every category — flats, wedges, platforms, sandals. I like this cute little flat. I just wonder how big my foot will look in them…

kors-vanilla-pump.jpg Nordstrom always has up-to-the-minute fashionable shoes. I found a few pair of whites that I might actually have the nerve to wear. This absolutely cute wedge by Michael Kors is Vanilla with Navy stripes. I suppose when I’m feeling nautical this might be the appropriate shoe. Not only is it white hot, it’s in patent and a wedge heel. 3 trends in one shoe. If you are the trendinista, this is the shoe for you. And priced right under $100, it’s a no-brainer. vince-camuto-flora-sandal.bmp
I think this open toe slingback pump by Vince Camuto is perfect for me. With the cut out leather which reminds me of eyelet, it’s not too much of a good thing. And and ideal choice for me with my phobia of my feet looking like giant submarines in white shoes. Mind you, no decent designer would call their shoes “white”. Notice Michael Kors, his are Vanilla. And this one by Caumto is Cream. It too is available at Nordstrom for $119.95.

Now I have to give this one bit of fashion advice. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT wear black hoisery with white shoes. That is just plain ugly. Remember, your hoisery matches your shoes. Now in the rare case you are an avant garde type of chick, that may work for you, but for the rest of us, stick with the program of basic fashion sense.

So step out of your comfort zone. Try on a pair of white shoes for size.

Rack ‘em Up

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

Are your shoes dumped in a corner of your room? Or better yet, do you use the Rubbermaid bin mode of storage for your prized possessions? Not a good thing. I have discussed shoe organization before, but considering it’s a new year and seems to be a time for updated organization, I thought I’d share this:

RAKKU: The shoe wheel.

shoe-wheel.jpg
Store up to 30 pair of shoes in a wheel. If you have Monk type characteristics (OCD)you can even organize them by color! Insert your favorites into adjustable pockets through elastic bands, which keep everything protected and uniform.

Why didn’t I think of that?

Valentino Leopard Wedge Just Added to my Lust List

Friday, December 29th, 2006

My lust list is gaining steam. This wedge by Valentino incorporates so many trends and manages to look fly without cheesiness at the same time. I love the wedge — leather in the front with the leopard on the wedge. I’m not usually a fan of T-straps, but this one would rock with jeans and a tunic or a casual party dress.

At Saks, $690.

Rich leather T-strap design with leopard-print haircalf band and wedge.
From the Resort 2007 Collection
Ankle strap with buckle closure
Wedge, 5″ heel

Leather lining and sole

Cruising for Gucci

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

Just got an email from Saks that the Gucci cruise line of shoes is in. I never really paid attention how popular these cruise lines are. (Check out my blog about Jimmy Choo’s cruise line at Saks a few days ago.) Anyway, they look great. Lots of open toes and neutral colors. I happen to be in love with the chunky wedge heel sandal with ankle strap in black suede. Of course it has the requisite Gucci gold horsebit ornament on the toe. Trés chic. It also comes in a color called Cur. For your information and mine, that’s a brown that’s a tad past caramel but not quite cocoa. I’m also in love with the Hollywood slide. It reminds me of the ones that Della Stret used to wear on Perry Mason. Lastly is the clog inspired mule made with signature Gucci sand colored fabric. Very South Beach. Quite cruise worthy.
gucci-cruise.jpg gucci-slide.jpg gucci-clog.jpg

Things, slides, mules, evening pumps and even a boot are part of this collection. For the life of me, I can’t understand why anyone on a cruise would need a “Montana Boot”.

Since no Carribean, Mediterranean or World Cruises are in my near future, I’ll just slide on my mules, don some “stunna” shades and cruise on over to Whole Foods to do my shopping for dinner.

Juicy Fruit – Yummy Patent Leather Pumps

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

Patent leather pumps in candy colors are jumping off the page in the November Elle. Hot pink John Galliano’s, canary yellow Christian Louboutin’s, candy apple red Sergio Rossi’s, royal blue Miu Miu’s, midnight blue Chanel’s and Crayola green Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiere were featured. Tagged for resort wear, these hotties are good enough for city wear any day. Or with anything for that matter. They would rock the heck out of some jeans or turn heads with a little black dress. (These are open-toed shoes remember. So be sure to get your pedi done with an equally dazzing nail color.) Check out the Juicy Fruit article in the Need it Now on page 206 and make your pick. I think I’m all about the yellow Louboutin wedge.

Shoe Contest

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

No, I’m giving away any fabulous shoes. But Fendi is. I have quite a competitive streak, and really hate to spoil my odds at winning, but I’ll pass on the info. This week’s InStyle newletter has a link to a contest that Fendi is sponsoring. It’s more than just fill in your name, email address and physical address kind of contest. You actually have to write an essay about why your friend needs a pair of shoes. If you win, both you and your friend get a pair of shoes. And there are 10 winners, so that equals 20 pair of shoes.

I’m trying to get all my aliases in order as I type…

Write something truly compelling. Like how you and your friend are so fortunate to wear the same size. So you job share. One wears the shoes to work one day. The other the next. So you can really use 2 new pair of shoes. Then you can both work full time and buy lots of shoes. And live happily ever after.

Nike + IPod?

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Ok, let me make it perfectly clear, I do not run. Maybe if my life were in jeopardy, I would run. I keep hearing about the Nike + IPod duo. I don’t really get it. I mean, If you got your IOod plugged into your ears, why does it have to be plugged into your shoe? So my daughter who’s all about the IPod, forwarded me the email. With a big HINT attached I might add. So according to Nike, this particular shoe you can combine your favorite playlists with customized performance feedback and more. You simple slip the sensor into your Nike+ shoe pocket and get running. Unless that thing is counting calories or telling me where the next shoe sale is, I don’t need it.

Elle Shoe Picks

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Got my shoe shopping guide from Elle in my email the other day. I was afraid to open it because I knew I’d be drooling and itching to fire up the plastic. Was I ever right. The slide show is amazing. 70 pair of hot shoes. Here are a couple of my favorites.

Most imaginative — This Louis Vuitton Chain Heel number. Leopart print to boot:

lv-chain-heel-pump.jpg

I was thinking when I get invited to my next big party in South Beach, these Jimmy Choo’s would be just perfect:jimmy-choo-sandal.jpg

And to give props to my fellow blogger Keith over at Watching Heroes, there is a sweet leather converse:leather-converse.jpg

Nice to dream.
