Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale - I Smell New Shoes!

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

It’s here folks! The Half Yearly Sale at Nordstrom. Since I work 2 Bart (subway) stops from a major Nordstrom in San Francisco, I will be hitting them up today in person. Shoe sales just gets my blood pumping. And since I am online all day, I can pick up a few pair of sale shoes from Nordstrom.com. The sale is storewide, but my thing is shoes, so that’s my first stop. The sale starts at 33% off regular prices, and for those of you who await this sale every six months, know that the prices do drop significantly. The problem is that those gorgeous pumps you are eyeing will probably disappear by the time the sale reaches 50% off. As I have mentioned before, I love this store for shopping because they carry large size shoes.

If you are not selfish, you can also shop shoes for juniors, childrens shoes, baby shoes and shoes for the man in your life. I happen to love thier childrens shoes. All my daughters have been spoiled by wearing italian shoes since they were born. The love of shoes. Sigh.

Where’s my credit card? There’s a sale waiting.

Design Your Own Coverse - Product (RED)

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

You may have heard about (RED). A noble cause to help fight AIDS in Africa. You can read up on it on their site, (RED). Here’s the basics:
(PRODUCT) RED™ ENGAGES BIG BUSINESS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST AIDS

(PRODUCT) RED engages big business to raise awareness and funds for The Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa. We do this by teaming up with iconic brands. Launch partners are: American Express, Converse, Gap, Giorgio Armani and Motorola.

(PRODUCT) RED is a branding mechanism which companies license to sell (PRODUCT) RED branded products to raise funds for the Global Fund. Companies whose products take on the (PRODUCT) RED mark make a commitment to contribute a portion of profits from the sales of that product into Global Fund-financed AIDS programmes, with a focus on women and children in Africa.

(RED) is not a charity or “campaign”. It is an economic initiative that aims to deliver a sustainable flow of private sector money to the Global Fund.

(RED) was created by Bono (U2, singer and activist) and Bobby Shriver (Chairman of DATA – Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa). Both also founded DATA in 2002, an organisation created to put political pressure on world governments to tackle the key issues surrounding debt, AIDS and trade in Africa.

With that being said, I am looking at the Converse. This is so exciting; you get to customize your own Chuck Taylor’s.
red-converse.jpg I can’t wait. I wonder if Christian Louboutin has thought about that?

Shoe Contest

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

No, I’m giving away any fabulous shoes. But Fendi is. I have quite a competitive streak, and really hate to spoil my odds at winning, but I’ll pass on the info. This week’s InStyle newletter has a link to a contest that Fendi is sponsoring. It’s more than just fill in your name, email address and physical address kind of contest. You actually have to write an essay about why your friend needs a pair of shoes. If you win, both you and your friend get a pair of shoes. And there are 10 winners, so that equals 20 pair of shoes.

I’m trying to get all my aliases in order as I type…

Write something truly compelling. Like how you and your friend are so fortunate to wear the same size. So you job share. One wears the shoes to work one day. The other the next. So you can really use 2 new pair of shoes. Then you can both work full time and buy lots of shoes. And live happily ever after.

Bazaar Bag & Shoe Special

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Got my latest Bazaar and woo hoo, this month features non other than a shoe special. Metallics, chunky cork wedges and evening peep-toe glamour puss pumps are featured. The feature article ” The Magic of Shoes” by Patraicia Marx relays my sentiments superbly. Says Marx:
“There are many women who belive that the primary purpose of a shoe is to protect the foot from the ground. These people are not impressed with Italian craftsmanship, hand-sewn beading, or toe cleavage. They favor the life of the mind to a stacked heel, truth and goodness or whatever to an alluring ankle strap; the soul to the instep. I am not such a person.(Italics mine)
A friend of mine theorizes that women- and men too - who spend a lot of money on shoes have high self-esteem. Expensive shoes, the argument goes, look the same as inexpensive shoes to the eyes of most people. That is assuming that most people even look, which they don’t. Anyone who splurges on shoes, therefore, is doing so to please herself and no one else. Or something like that.
Anyway, if my friend is right, my self-esteem is alarmingly elevated.”

In my estimation, this Ms. Marx has a great mind. I like the way this woman thinks. And great minds think alike.

Think Pink- A Good Reason to Buy!

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

I really don’t need a reason to shop, but I always feel better when my hard earned cash is going to a worthy cause. So I’ve gotten my pink Stila lipgloss and Philosophy shower gel emblazoned with a pink ribbon that I buy every October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. But, I figure I have bigger fish to fry. So I did a search for shoes in honor of the month. Stuart Weitzman has an entire auction of the most gorgeous shoes for the cause. Designed by models, the shoes reflect their personality and style. But the perfect shoe to reflect Breast Cancer Awareness is the pink pump designed by model Bar Rafaeli. The description on www.stuartweitzman.com says: This beautifully simple pink shoe, topped off by a pink ribbon meant to symbolize breast cancer awareness (and adorned with Swarovski crystals), is a reflection of this model’s minimalist (but gorgeous) taste. Bar also signed the sole of the shoe, as well as a photograph of herself. They are $325, and I’m tempted to bid on them myself. But how often would I wear a pink pump. Although, I rarely ask myself that when making other shoe purchases.

Shoebuy.com is giving making a contribution to the cause from all sales of pink shoes this month. Lots of categories to choose from – children’s, dressy, boots and more.

Even Avon has a flip flop for $10 with proceeds going to the research for the cure.

I’m not a golfer, but I swore that if I ever took up the sport, I would look pretty darn good out there on the green.
bc-golf-shoes.jpgI can’t believe I found golf shoes adorned with pink. How cute are these?
Not to be forgotten is QVC, who each year does a major sale of shoes with net proceeds that go to breast cancer research and education.
Shop with a conscience!

About Shoe Boxers

Would you rather spend your last dollar on a killer pair of Jimmy Choo stilettos or save your cash and traipse around town in a pair of last years flip flops? If you chose the latter, this site is not for you. Shoeboxers is for the Shoe Diva. For the girl who stands out in a crowd – likely because her 4 inch heels have her towering over everyone else.
