I’m Screaming Awesome with the New Double Upper Collection from Lady Foot Locker

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Seriously, these have got to be the best looking Converse that has come around in a super long time.

They come in all sorts of amazing colors and still give the awesome quality behind the Converse like. Lady Foot Locker wants everyone who wears them to “Tread Loudly” and seriously, how can you not follow the rules in these shoes. I fell in love with them the minute I saw them and it’s not only because I love Converse, it’s because the matching of the colors in a coordination that is too die for. Here are the ones Shoe Boxers loves.

The Orange and Grey Chuck Taylor Double Ox: Who would have thought to pair orange with grey? And whoever thought of this shoe deserves a raise or at least a pat on the back. It not only is an awesome summer shoe, the colors on the shoe make it easy to pass off without wearing any socks. I would love to wear this shoe paired with a pair of cute Capri’s and take a walk with my dog through the park.

• Converse Men’s Double Ox Upper: This shoe would go great on a man’s foot that is walking along side the women wearing the orange and grey double ox upper as above. They are the perfect match of colors the orange and the tan and would look great, as stated above, without wearing socks as well. They would complement any guy’s outfit and what guys doesn’t want to look good in his shoes as well?

To see a whole line of colored double uppers, check out the Lady Foot Locker near you!

Environmental Air Jordans

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

air-jordan.jpg

Nike’s 23rd version of its venerable Air Jordan basketball shoe comes in Michael Jordan’s staple black, red and white uniform colors but with a new, underlying hue: green.

Nike says the Air Jordan XX3 is its first premium product designed according to the company’s sustainable standards. The world’s largest athletic-wear maker, based near Beaverton, says it changed how the shoe was designed and manufactured to reduce waste, use more environmentally friendly materials and eliminate solvent-based glues.

Industry insiders and designers lauded Nike for elevating sustainability goals to its most famous product. But they note that many of Nike’s efforts to limit the shoe’s impact on the environment are more baby steps than soaring, Jordanesque innovations. A shoe made without glue, in the face of all the other things that contribute to global warming and it’s a step in the right direction. It’s going to take large, huge-profile companies to ultimately make a difference.

Nike executives said they faced a big challenge balancing the shoe’s performance demands with sustainability goals. They said they had to ensure that its contents and design would withstand the pounding that pro player-endorsers such as New Orleans point guard Chris Paul and Boston Celtics guard Ray Allen will give the shoe when running, stopping and jumping. They said they also grappled with a limited pool of vendors who make materials that meet Nike’s sustainability standards.

Perhaps as difficult is the business context that the shoe enters. The footwear industry saw 2007 holiday season sales decline from the previous year. Basketball shoes, especially, are taking a beating. Even amid that downturn, Nike has stolen market share from rival shoemakers.

Nike also is touting the shoe’s 23rd iteration, noting that it echoes Jordan’s first jersey number.

In a departure from previous rollouts, Nike will release a limited edition of the shoe to 23 U.S. retailers Jan. 25. The $230 price tag is the highest ever for an Air Jordan, Humphrey said. Larger releases on Feb. 16 and 23, pegged around the NBA All-Star game, will be priced at $185.

The sustainability efforts drove up the shoe’s costs by 25 percent more than past Air Jordans and “really played a big point in where we ended up (with) pricing,” said Gentry Humphrey, director of Brand Jordan Footwear. Yet Humphrey conceded that the shoe’s greener attributes won’t necessarily sway its core customers — collectors, athletes and urban teens — to buy it.

** “There was always politics involved in famines – who would help whom and why never quite fades from the picture. These days, though, politics is more important and regional production less.”That is just a part of a wonderful story, Gillian Polack talks about over at Food History. Check out Pastry for Sweet Sneakers

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Sweets for your feet? That’s exactly what Vanessa and Angela Simmons, daughters of Rev Run of Run DMC fame have cooked up. Most recently featured on Run’s House the two young entrepreneurs have already reached reality TV fame. Now they have launched a new sneaker line — Pastry. It’s no wonder these two young women have produced a line of fashion footwear — they are the neices of urban fashion moguls Russel Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons, founders of Phat Farm and Baby Phat. Kimora more recently launched her perfume and makeup line at Sephora.

The line features colorful, mid-priced athletic-inspired shoes in multiple styles for young women.
Every pair of shoes comes with a tube of scented lipgloss attached to it matching the shoe’s theme. Maybe that sweet touch is due to Aunti Kimora’s influence.

According to Elizabeth Wellington, Inquirer Fashion Writer:

13829299451press52200785905am.jpg

Pastry is available locally at Sneaker Villa, where they retail for $65. Cake is the shoe line’s first collection, comprising four sneakers: Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Mousse, Sprinkles, and Red Velvet, each designed to look like the sweet it represents. Strawberry Shortcake is pink and white, for example; red velvet has a red lining, and the outside is striped in pink and ecru.

Angela, a 19-year-old sophomore at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, came up with the Sprinkles sneaker. “I bake a Pillsbury cake called Confetti,” she said. “Inside the cake are sprinkles that burst inside after you bake it. That’s where I came up with that concept.”

Justin — Where are your Sneakers?

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Justin Timberlake is known for wearing sneakers with EVERYTHING! When performing, partying, even when dressed to the nines. It was sort of his signature style. Jeans and sneakers. Suits and sneakers. But it seems that now that he claims he’s brought sexy back, he’s upgraded his shoe selection too.

Old Justin

New Dapper Justin

Even when performing for a bunch of kids at the Nickelodeon Awards, Justin Timberlake managed to look so polished and grown up. I guess he’s starting to belive his own hype about bringing sexy back. Although I heard Prince boast that sexy never left…

GAP Expands Shoe Collection

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

GAP has always had a few shoes in its lineup. But recently they have expanded that line up to include more than a few. Currenly on their website, GAP has a complete selection of the Spring Trends. Flats, Espadrilles, Wedges, thongs, casual wooden platforms and even Converse. This is a great site to buy your trendy shoes, as the prices are reasonable. So once the season is over, you don’t mind if you have worn your favorite shoes into the ground. It’s not like trying to preserve your favorite pair of designer heels. (Can you imagine wearing out a pair of Jimmy Choo’s or Christian Louboutin’s in a couple months??)

I’m wondering if this new selection of shoes from GAP happens to be because of the success of their new shoe shopping site, Piperlime.

Step up Your Game with Some Color

Friday, March 16th, 2007

Are your sneakers basic white, or black or brown? Mix it up. Add some spice to your footwear. Try a little color with your sneaks. Every major athletic shoe company has some jazzy sneakers. reebok-sj-retro-aztec-sneakers.jpg

Check out this Reebok SJ Retro Aztec sneakers in blue/citron/red/navy. $80 at Nordstrom.

I love Puma’s sneakers. They are actually my sneaker of choice. I used to be an avowed Adidas fan. Especially when I played tennis everyday, but the style of Puma is right up my alley. I in particular love the laceless styles that they make. I travel quite a bit for work, so being able to pull those suckers off and throw them right back on without lacing is ideal for airport security lines. Check out colorful sneak: LAB II WOMENS
Color: Violet Quartz/Orchid Purple/White
Price: $70.00

puma.jpg
Originally released in 1981, the LAB II is a lightweight trainer with an unique midsole presentation. The LAB II is made of mesh.

Now, Adidas still is on track with great shoes, and colorful ones at that. I love this red sneak. The Spider is $90 and is pictured in Victory Red/Amber. Hot shoes.

Who doesn’t love old school Chuck Taylors? My colleague at Shopping Tips Online paid homage to Chuck Taylor’s recently. Well, old school school meets hip hop bling with this metallic high top Chuck. Right on time for the spring metallic shoe trend as well.

Flat Out Gorgeous

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

I’m not a fan of flats. I much prefer heels to those flat shoes that give no shape to the leg and help with a graceful walk. However, I realize that flats are a necessary evil. To that end, Nordstrom has some pretty new cute flats on it’s site. Since I work on my feet on occasion, a stylish pair of flats with good cushioning and support are of utmost necessity. I found a couple pair that I could live with.via-spiga.jpg
This Via Spiga black patent slingback flat with a bow across the toe would look chic with either pants or skirt. A nice office shoe, or a good shoe for someone who has to stand for long periods. I love this brand, their shoes wear well and last for years if properly cared for.

stuart-weitzman.jpg I love Stuart Weitzman shoes. His shoes are usually sexy and glamorous. These patent flats, also with a bow come in brown or black.

One last pair that I am definitely going to purchase are by Cole Haan with the Air technology from Nike. Black patent, with a twist on the Mary Jane and extremely cute. Nordstrom’s descriptions:
cole-haan.jpgPatent leather trims a quilted calfskin mary jane, designed with a fully padded sock liner, ultimate Nike Air cushioning and a lightweight rubber nub sole. Leather upper and lining/rubber sole.
By Cole Haan; imported. $165
Salon Shoes.

With flat out gorgeous shoes like these, a devoted stiletto diva like me can have a change of heart.

Best Shoe Picks for Picky Teens

Friday, December 15th, 2006

My 15 year old daughter is so subtle about her shoe preferences. She emails them to me. I actually like it. No arguments, I don’t get my feelings hurt and I don’t have to see her roll her eyes in sync with loud exhalations of frustration and angst. She is a sneaker girl, so here are her picks. These may work for the picky teen girl in your home too.

nike_id.jpg She has an IPod, so now she needs the Nike ID shoe to have one synchronized experience. She does run, so this may not be such a bad investment.

She’s also a skateboarder, so next on her hit list are Vans.classic-van.jpg But take a gander at that website. It’s got so much stuff flashing, I feel like I’m in an altered state… It’s no wonder kids can’t concentrate anymore. I’ll just have to give her the card to do her own shopping on that one. I did see a classic slide on in leather that’s perfect for this non-skateboarding mom and her daughter.

venuss-pump.jpgNow for her girly side, we both agree on Steve Madden. Every girl needs a cute dress shoe. “Venuss” is a sensible yet flirty dress shoe. Definitely not a diva shoe, but nontheless a flossy choice for a picky teen.

Now for my 19 year old, shopping is a breeze. She’s my clone.

I’m updating this post because as soon as I published it, guess what came in my email? Another shoe HINT from none other than that 15 year old sneaker loving girl. Looks like adidas and the NBA have joined forces. Sweet. Now if they could just do something for the Raiders

Lust List Updated

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

Beleive it or not, my lust list this week doesn’t include stilettos, leopard print or a designer label. I’m determined to be ultra fabulous by the time my big 50 rolls around next year, so I need to get in better shape. So number one on my lust list this week are a pair of MBT’s.

mbt.jpg

I know they aren’t cute at all, but I’m dreaming of how cute my lower half will be after wearing these for the next six months. That and laying off the french fries. And red wine. And chocolate. Maybe I’m reaching with the ultra fabulous goal. Maybe 50 and just fabulous isn’t such bad a combination after all.

Design Your Own Coverse - Product (RED)

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

You may have heard about (RED). A noble cause to help fight AIDS in Africa. You can read up on it on their site, (RED). Here’s the basics:
(PRODUCT) RED™ ENGAGES BIG BUSINESS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST AIDS

(PRODUCT) RED engages big business to raise awareness and funds for The Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa. We do this by teaming up with iconic brands. Launch partners are: American Express, Converse, Gap, Giorgio Armani and Motorola.

(PRODUCT) RED is a branding mechanism which companies license to sell (PRODUCT) RED branded products to raise funds for the Global Fund. Companies whose products take on the (PRODUCT) RED mark make a commitment to contribute a portion of profits from the sales of that product into Global Fund-financed AIDS programmes, with a focus on women and children in Africa.

(RED) is not a charity or “campaign”. It is an economic initiative that aims to deliver a sustainable flow of private sector money to the Global Fund.

(RED) was created by Bono (U2, singer and activist) and Bobby Shriver (Chairman of DATA – Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa). Both also founded DATA in 2002, an organisation created to put political pressure on world governments to tackle the key issues surrounding debt, AIDS and trade in Africa.

With that being said, I am looking at the Converse. This is so exciting; you get to customize your own Chuck Taylor’s.
red-converse.jpg I can’t wait. I wonder if Christian Louboutin has thought about that?

Nike + IPod?

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Ok, let me make it perfectly clear, I do not run. Maybe if my life were in jeopardy, I would run. I keep hearing about the Nike + IPod duo. I don’t really get it. I mean, If you got your IOod plugged into your ears, why does it have to be plugged into your shoe? So my daughter who’s all about the IPod, forwarded me the email. With a big HINT attached I might add. So according to Nike, this particular shoe you can combine your favorite playlists with customized performance feedback and more. You simple slip the sensor into your Nike+ shoe pocket and get running. Unless that thing is counting calories or telling me where the next shoe sale is, I don’t need it.

Thigh toning, butt shaping shoes. Oohh yea!

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Who’d a thunk that you could wear a shoe that would firm and tone your calves, thighs and butt? Well, they’re here. MBT’s. I keep seeing them advertised in my Blissworld catalogue, but have been hesitant to take the plunge. MTB’s are not cheap. The range around $250. But then neither is my gym membership which I don’t use. MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology. Read about it on their website. They are not particularly cute, but if you end up with a slamming lower half, who cares?
mbt.gifmtb.gif

Apparently just having these shoes on, your body is getting a workout. There is even a video that comes with them so you can learn how to walk in these puppies.

So, I have settled on two pair. One pair for schlepping around, with jeans on, sweats on etc. And another to wear at work.

If I end up with buns of steel, I’ll be looking to buy some stock in that company.

Long Live Silver and Black

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

I suited up for game day yesterday, and I think it made all the difference for my team. We were 0-5 going into our game yesterday. For all my raves over stilettos and pumps, the sneaker does have its place. Not just when I walk from to my office, but on the ever-important game day. My game day uniform is my “Real Women Wear Black? t-shirt and my silver and black Fila sneakers. Haven’t worn the Fila’s all season, but I did yesterday, and my loser team had a win. So something has to be said for those sneakers. By the way, I’m not superstitious at all. I’m looking for a new pair of silver and black sneakers for this season though. And it’s hard. Raider fans, if by some weird chance you read this, send me a link to a hot silver and black sneaker. I did find one at Puma, that looks more like a very stylish walking shoe. silver-puma.jpgThat may very well be my winning shoe for next week.
Go Raiders!

Athletic Shoes at Zappos!

These sneakers are made for walkin’

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Ok, I have an admission. While I am fixated on ridiculously high heels, I have to take those suckers off when I walk to work. So this is where the fresh sneakers come into play. I was sporting Puma’s and fishnets on Friday (only to be replaced with a suede stiletto later for dinner). My daughter, the queen hot sneakers was repulsed by such a sight, but I explained to her when she gets older, she will realize that sneakers are for function, not a fashion statement. I’m barely finishing my sentence when she starts in about Missy Elliot’s line of Adidas footwear. So we log onto www.shopadidas.com and I find out that Stella McCartney is designing for Adidas now. Now I have to ask myself, how bad can a sneaker be when a major designer is lending her name to the brand? This I say as I am putting a pair of $125 running shoes into my basket…Like I run.

About Shoe Boxers

Would you rather spend your last dollar on a killer pair of Jimmy Choo stilettos or save your cash and traipse around town in a pair of last years flip flops? If you chose the latter, this site is not for you. Shoeboxers is for the Shoe Diva. For the girl who stands out in a crowd – likely because her 4 inch heels have her towering over everyone else.
