How to Make your Own Christmas Houseshoes
It’s really rather easy to make quick house shoes for yourself this holiday. Here is a step-by-step guide on making them all by yourself and this is a great project for kids.
Step 1: First you need to determine the size of your own foot or the foot of the person you are making this for. Do this by measuring the foot with a ruler as it is resting on the floor. Line the ruler up along the side of the foot and add about 2-inches onto that length.
Step 2: Using a piece of felt, flannel or whatever material you are wanting the house shoe to be made out of. I made a quick pair out of felt that was pretty stiff already. Using the foot again, step on the materials and using a felt-tip marker, draw the outline of the foot on the material and cut this marking out while leaving about an inch on each side of the line drawn. Be sure and curve the toe-part of the top of the shoe. Cut out about 10 of these in the same shape and stack them together.
Step 3: Now the top part of the shoe is where you will use the ruler. You want to create a top part of the shoe to stay on, so using the ruler, mark the half mark on the ruler to the size of the foot your just measured. Then mark with a dot where the halfway mark is on the felt. Remove the ruler and create a design, but make sure to allow a few inches on the side for sewing. I used a half-moon shape for the toe area and cut the top part where my foot will slide in with a zigzag pattern. Once that is cut out, you are ready for step 4.
Step 4: Using fabric glue, glue the felt bottom foot pieces together and allow to dry. Once those are dry, glue the top part of the house shoe onto the bottom pieces. Once that is dry use some thick thread or even small twice and a large needle and sew the pieces together in a blanket stitch. You can even glue or stitch on some design on the top of the shoe. You’re done.
