Cole Haan has stepped up to the challenge of making footwaer both fashionable and functional by adding Nike Air technology to 21 of its dress and casual pairs. The sneaker-style cushioning is hidden uder the heel and ball of each shoe, making even four-inch stilettos for women and rugged hiking boots for men a whole lot cozier to knick around in and walk for blocks as well. Within the Nike Air technology, there are a number of different types of innovation that are specific to different sport end-uses. For this high heel, the Nike “Zoom air bag, which has proven successful in field sports like football, soccer, golf and baseball, was selected. It works well in sport shoes that require the foot to have specialized contact with the ground, and in which the shoes are relatively low profile (verses the fullness of a tennis shoe or basketball shoe). Importantly, as with all Nike technology, Zoom Air does not break down under repeated pressure over time.
Of course, the most important step was making sure that women felt the difference. Indeed they did. Extensive testing at the NSRL showed that in multiple “blind wear tests, women walking around in the heels with Zoom Air consistently perceived the shoes as far more comfortable than women wearing the same heels without Air.
