2. Clip your toenails straight across using a toenail clipper or scissors. Clipping straight across will help prevent ingrown toenails. And will help with dirt getting under the nail and being pushed to the sides of the nail.
3. File the toenails to smooth any rough edges. Push back the toenail cuticles. Use a cuticle moisturizer if they do not push back easily after soaking. Never cut or trim, or have anyone else cut or trim your cuticles. Your cuticles on your toenails and your fingernails is there to protect the nail bed.
4. Massage your feet with a moisturizing lotion or a peppermint extract containing lotion. Use an exfoliating lotion if the skin is dry and/or roughened. Use a loofah or pumice stone on roughened areas.
5. If you are a woman or a man that prefers polish, apply a base coat and then a color. Men can apply a base coat and a clear polish to protect the nails as well. Complete the pedicure with a top coat of clear polish.
