Wondering the Planet with Nomadic Shoes

by Shelly

nomadicshoe2.jpgI was first drawn to these shoes because of their cost. They didn’t break my budget. I love the feel of the sandals and want to spread the word about how great they are to everyone I come across. Not all shoes are equal and these draw the line above and beyond the call for soles on my feet.

The backers behind Nomadic Hand-crafted sandals feel in today’s wealth addicted society it is truly possible to provide consumers with a company whom attempts to function as a business in which all people involved with the company perform an active role and win. The “office”, and shipping is based presently out of North Carolina. Although they still spend a lot of their time on the road- someone is always around their office to take your order, or question on any product they manufacture. Find the Nomadic family at live events: Chris, Pete, Scooter, Lewis, Kevin, Kelly, Courtney, Jacob, Shea and Liz. And let them know how much you LOVE their products and their Nomadic State of Mind thinking process.

Could Your Feet Use Z-Coil Footwear

by Shelly

z-coils.gif

In the early 1980s Alvaro Z. Gallegos was running an average of seven miles a day. He suffered all the typical injuries associated with running—heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, knee trouble, hip pain, and back pain. And although he owned a shoe store at the time and had access to all types of running shoes, he was unable to find a shoe that eased his pain.

Realizing that the source of his pain was impact, Al reasoned that putting a “shock-absorber” in the heel of his shoe would reduce the force of impact. And as an added benefit, a spring would provide some form of energy return, to help him run faster and farther.

The signature coil under the heel of Z-CoiL® footwear helps to protect your body from the damaging effects of impact. As the coil compresses during heel-strike, it significantly slows the rate of impact experienced by the body. In fact, studies by Sandia National Laboratories have shown that Z-CoiL footwear provides 50% more cushioning compared to conventional shoes.

Styles come in the following colors and names:

• Sidewinder Sandal: Available in Black, Tan (Women’s Sizes Only), or Brown (Men’s Sizes Only)

• Freedom 2000: Available in Blue/White, White, Black, or Gray

• High Dessert Hiker: Available in Brown or Gray

• Taos Clog: Taos available in Black or Brown.

• Workshoes: The Enclosed Coil System™ can be fitted on all Z-CoiL® footwear.
Available in black or white.

• Z-Walker: Available in Black, White, or Black with Velcro®, or Brown (NEW!)

• Sandia

• Taos Strap

• Santa Fe

• Tia: Available in Black or for a limited time only in Navy Blue.

Open-Toe Shoes for Your Work Week

by Shelly

For your Monday: Monday is the day of the week between Sunday and Tuesday. It gets its name from the Moon, which in turn gets its name from Mani (Old English Mona), the Germanic Moon god. Similarly, the names in Latin-based languages such as the Italian name (Lunedì), the French name (lundi), the Spanish name (lunes), and the Romanian name (Luni) come from the Latin name for Moon, luna. The Russian word, eschewing pagan names, is понедельник (poniediélnik), meaning “after Sunday.” In most of the Indian Languages, the word for Monday is Somvar, with Soma being the Sanskrit name for the moon. The Japanese word for Monday is getsuyōbi, which means day of the moon.

For your Wednesday:Wednesday is the third day of the week in most western countries and the fourth day of the week in the Christian calendar, between Tuesday and Thursday. The name comes from the Middle English Wednes dei, which is from Old English Wēdnes dæg, meaning the day of the Germanic god Woden (Wodan) who was a god of the Anglo-Saxons in England until about the 7th century. Wēdnes dæg is like the Old Norse Oðinsdagr (”Odin’s day”), which is an early translation of the Latin dies Mercurii (”Mercury’s day”), though Mercury (the messenger of the gods) and Woden (the king of the Germanic gods) are not equivalent in most regards.

In some offices, employees are allowed to wear less formal attire on Fridays, known as Casual Friday or Dress-Down Friday. Want to Recycle Your Old Athletic Shoes? Here’s How…..

by Shelly

nike-resuse-a-shoe.jpgGot a pair of old sneakers that are not worthy enough to give to charity? Nike will recycle any brand of athletic shoe through its Reuse-a-Shoe program. Nike processes and recycles the footwear to make sports surfaces for basketball courts, tennis courts, running tracks, and playgrounds. They have collected shoes to make athletic surfaces for New Orleans, to help get kids back out on the courts even as the city rebuilds. To date, about 20 million pairs of athletic shoes worldwide have been recycled through the program. Shoes that you recycle are ground up by NIKE® and made into carpet padding, basketball courts and track surfaces. NIKE® Reuse-A-Shoe , from outsoles and manufacturing byproducts, helps make football, baseball and soccer fields, as well as golf products, and even weight room flooring, as well. Nike Grind Foam, from midsoles, is used in synthetic basketball courts, tennis courts and playground surfacing. Nike Grind Fluff, from textile and leather uppers is used for padding under hardwood basketball floors. Since the Reuse-A-Shoe program began in 1993, Nike has helped donate more than 150 sport surfaces to communities around the world.

On average, Nike recycles between one and two million pairs of athletic shoes each year. Since 1993, more than 15 million pairs of shoes have been processed in their Oregon recycling plant. They recently began a partnership with the National Recycling Coalition (NRC) and their community member affiliates; NRC manages the logistics of getting the shoes back from their community, and Nike recycles the shoes. Nike’s short-term goal is to have at least one athletic shoe collection center in every state in the continental U.S.

Product Stewardship is about more than recycling, it’s about sustainability! Programs like Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe challenges us to reduce the life-cycle environmental effects of products. In doing so, it taps the shared responsibility of business, consumers and governments to become better environmental stewards.

If you are familiar with ballet then you know most of the ballet moves and the best shoes for the practice, but if not, then here are some basic moves to use with ballet and some of the best shoes out on the market to help you with your moves.

First off, let’s cover the history behind ballet and some of the basic moves with ballet. Ballet is a classic art form which dates back for centuries and has entertained royalty and even some commoners. The basic ballet steps look simple, but that is only because of the highly skilled dancers who devote many hours to perfecting their art.

Ballet is beautiful and graceful to watch and many young girls have dreamed of growing up to be one of the lovely ballerinas upon the stage. It all starts however, with the basic ballet steps which must be mastered to perfection before advanced moves and ballerina stardom can be achieved.

Modern ballet was popularized in France by King Louis XIV, and many ballet terms are referred to by their French name to this day.

The basic ballet positions are:

First Position - Premiere: The toes point out to make a V shape while the feet are in a straight line at the heels. Heels together. Knees together. Arms form a soft curve out in front of the body. The spine is kept straight with the back, pelvis, and the head in alignment.

Second Position - Second: The feet are shoulder width apart and the legs are turned out. The arms are kept rounded and out to the side.

Third Position - Troisieme: Maintain the out turned legs and cross the leg placing the heel on the middle of the other foot. If the right foot is on top then the right arm is raised in a semi circle above the head and the left arm is out to the side. Reverse the arm positions when the left foot is on top.

Fourth Position - Quatrieme: Maintain outward leg position and put the right foot in front of the left leaving about 12 inches in between. Raise the right arm over the head and curve it into a semi circle. Reverse arms if the left foot is placed in front.

Fifth Position – Cinquieme: Legs are out turned at the hips and the heel of the right foot is placed against the big toe of the left foot at the position of the first joint. The arms are formed into a circle over the head.

Below are some of the basic ballet steps:

• Arabesque: Stand on the right leg while the left leg is raised straight out behind

• Chasse: A galloping motion where one leg appears to chase the other.

• Emboite: Move forward while jumping on alternate toes.

• Jete: Leaping from one leg to another.

• Piroutte: To turn, or spin.

• Passe: To pass the leg into a new position.

• Pas de chat: A jump to the side.

• Plie: To bend down the knees.

• Releve: To rise upon the tiptoes.

• Port de Bras: Moving the arms through various positions.

• Saute: To jump.

• Tendu: To stretch the leg while maintaining a pointed toe.

The positions and steps above are the basic building blocks of ballet upon which all else is built. These movements are practiced by beginners and professionals alike until they become second nature. (Source: Reprint Articles)

Flip Flops Bad for Your Health?

by Shelly

flip-flops.jpgPerfect for hot weather, they have been the fashion hit of the summer. But doctors have warned flip flops can be as bad for your health as they are for your career, wearing them to work was an invitation to be sacked. Now medics have joined the attack by saying they can lead to joint pain, shin splints and twisted ankles.

Wearing flat shoes stretches the calf muscles hugely if the wearer is used to wearing a heel. It strains the Achilles tendon and the back of the leg. Pain can start to develop after two weeks. And the single thong between the toes offered the wearer ‘no support’.

Doctors recommend that flip flops should be saved for the beach and replaced with shoes with backs or proper straps to hold the foot in place. Figures show that 55,100 men and women went to hospital with flip flop-related complaints in 2002.

Another problem overuse. When people wear flip flops all the time they are constantly scrunching their toes up into a claw. This can cause problems such as tendonitis and even shin splints. People go to work in them and stand in them all day. They are also extremely unstable so you are more likely to trip over and hurt yourself.

So the bottom line on flip flops is wear them in moderation or not at all. If you must wear them, reserve your time in them to the beach or quick walks outside, like checking the mail or bringing the dog inside for the evening. There are several shoes made anymore to replace the flip flop, so look around you may find one better and even more supportive than the flip flop.
